Title: FJ camera mounts
Post by: andyb on August 18, 2010, 05:27:28 PM
Quiz time!  I'd like to figure out a way to have a camera mounted on the FJ.  It'd be nice if it worked on the zx9 (or any sporty thing, really).  I really want a good, clear view of the gauges--think poor man's data aquisition system

Just need a 1/4-20 threaded mount sort of thing, so that I can jam a camera on it and use that to record video.  I don't want a helmet cam, just a clear view so i can work out where my shifts were and such at the track, or on my "private testing track" for "research" if you will...

Ideas?  Don't want to spend a fortune, and I was thinking of just carving up some sheet 1/4 Al plate and going at it, but didn't know how much vibration would intrude.

......andyb,... I am looking to do the same [ front and back ].  It would be nice to have the mounts, somewhere, where the camera can see, the tires in action..... I believe that' makes for better viewing.
... but, it would be nice to record, how fast you are going to.

ram mount..... on the steering stem nut (after you drill a hole) or on the handlebar locator bolt..( no drilling required)

lots to choose from.

Frank-

Did you go with the just the base ball, and drill the 1/4" x 20 or 3/8" x 20 threaded stud? or some other.  Did you simply drill and tap the hole... or did you use the locator bolt?

Just curious.

BY the way, thanks for the link.  For whatever reason, I had not realized these were so cheap, I just ordered one for the Gixxer, and may do so for the petite ninja.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

Actually Eric fabricated me a new steering stem nut and drilled and tapped it... he used the handlebar locator bolt for his mount ... nothing like having a few options  :good2:

Dan,

I found the stem nut to be a lot thinner than I thought it would be (too thin for threads), so I used the RAM ball mount w/the 1/4"-20 stem on it.

If it will hold my Garmin 2820, it should hold about any camera that you'd care to mount up.

Ditto...that's what I did to mount my Ram mount. The ball has a bolt end and the nut fit inside the steering stem nut? Does that even make sense?? :shok:

yup... same thing i found.... luckily i had a spare stem nut and Eric used his fabrication skills to make me a custom mouting point with it.

nothing wrong with using the handlebar locating bolt though and no fabrication is required .
