Title: intro from cincy ohio
Post by: dperkins1964 on July 02, 2010, 02:34:06 PM
hey !  finally broke down and started to ride again. . 21 yr layoff...found an 89 in old guys garage...took it home.. cleaned carbs, did a thorough look over and WOW, DO I LOVE  FJ's!   have a few carb issues I'm sorting out w/ everybody's combined knowledge but very happy with this 1200
started w/a QA50 Honda,  73 model.
traded it for Harley 90cc AMF trailbike...(boy did i get shafted)  worth more $ today
traded 90 and $ for 73 CL350 Honda
...everybody by then had 4CYL u.m.j's,  (550's,650 KAW, GS 750,  maxim,  etc
wanted a 650 but my buddies father had a 78 GS1000E   very quick and good handling ,.. loved it!
Traded For car soon after---(girlfriend was terrified of bikes !)
Then got me a 76 900 LTD, but really wanted  a GS1100E ....soon
My GS1100 ,very fast, handled, but weak braking..
my buddy pulled up on a new 86 fj1200,...i almost fell over i looked so nice!  got to ride it a few miles..
Got married in 86 had kids, sold my 1100
21yrs go by..got tired of young squids riding by on there c/ rocket...
decided i wanted an FJ... rest to follow...
in my judgement, a very well thought out bike..  perfect powerband for me.  and comfort galore
BTW,  my wife of 24 years LOVES IT!! She was the one who encouraged me! need i say more!    THANKS FOR EVERYONES' HELP

Welcome.  Similar story here.  This is my 3rd summer with the FJ.  Great to be back in the saddle, yes?

Very nice intro Mark.  Good.  Just a 'hello., here's a bit about me' -nice.  Seems like you'll fit right in.

Not to put you on the spot Mark, but, this should serve as an example to newbies to the list: note he's not trying to sell anything or solve a no-context problem, he provided a recognition of his appreciation for the bike that anchors the list, a history of bikes.

Marsh, maybe you should post this up as a template for newbies...  Kidding -sort-of.

Anyway, welcome Mark.

Dan

Mark?
Dan, were you replying to dperkins1964 or markmartin?
But yes, +1 on the proper introduction.
