Title: Lower footpegs for my '84 FJ
Post by: charleygofast on April 02, 2026, 05:20:45 PM
Hey all, I haven't been on here for a while. I remember years ago some members were replacing their footpegs with I believe were foot pegs from a Buel...Blast maybe? I would like to lower mine as I get some pretty painfull cramps lately when I ride my FJ. I remember it being talked about some years back. If anyone has done this or any other method of lowering the pegs or knows where I can purchase items to do it I would appreciate it.                                                                       Thanks,                                                                                                                 Charley

Charley,
Can't help with hardware, but Plan B there might be to get a heavy power stapler, remove staples, and remove the seat covering. Build up the seat with foam "islands" as large as the top of the seat, and trimmed to fit you. Spray 3-M adhesive will anchor the foam sheets in place, and this glue never hardens. Once you like the fit of the foam under you, re-staple the seat covering in place. Taa-Daaa!
 :good2:
The foam layers used under ordinary carpeting is maybe 0.5" or 1 cm thick, and it is commonly used for custom motorcycle seats. An angle grinder or electric carving knife makes short work of sculpturing foam.

Great Idea. over the years I've chopped and lowered dozens of seats for all different reasons, usually a cafe setup or making a too tall seat fit a different motorcycle. I have been thinking of trying this on my spare seat. for the time being I have a pretty nice sheepskin that brings it up a little.                                                                                                                 Charley

Charley,
Even better, then. Cut the carpet-foam "islands" to the size of the seat top, and try them in several layers under the sheepskin cover. If you get up to something that you like, then you can easily install the foam under the seat upholstery-cover. Use short heavy staples (maybe 1/4" or 3/8" deep) to re-install the OEM seat covering. HTH.

I have a set I'd let go for $100 +s/h.  Hard work is done, bolt on and go.
