Title: Throttle cable or cables?
Post by: Carel on November 02, 2025, 12:56:25 AM
I recently bought a 1986 FJ1100 and noticed it has only one throttle cable to open carbs but to return it relies only on spring action. While it works fine I noticed that there is brackets etc for a return cable.Your views on this will be appreciated!

Carel,
In the USA, I can find parts fiches for the 1985 FJ1100 and the 1986 FJ1200.  I found no listings for a 1986 FJ1100.  In any case, both bikes use the same Part Numbers for two throttle cables on each bike.  These parts are no longer available, OEM.  You may find some used parts on Fleabay, or similar sites.  If somebody here has those old cables, a good bike shop can duplicate these cables new for you, using the old fittings.
Best wishes.

What i've done about this lack of OEM throttle cables on my 3CV is to use a twist grip housing from a 3XW, or XJR for that matter, and also use the 3XW, and again the XJR, genuine OEM throttle cables. Double check the wiring plug connector to avoid disappointment and modify if need be.
The housing has to be moved slightly on the handlebar, no biggie, but saves trying to find or even make the cables. HTH.

We have them in stock

We also have the pull sides new as well.

The push back cables are an extra safety feature in case the return springs don't work for some reason.

I sure like those cable slider boxes on the '84-87 FJ's.
Much easier to work with compared to the 1 piece cables on the later FJ's.
