Title: Hello from NJ - looking for an FJ1100
Post by: dellis32 on October 30, 2025, 01:13:45 PM
Hey everyone,
New member here but a longtime fan of the FJ. I'm looking for a clean FJ1100 - preferably something solid and mostly stock. I do my own wrenching, so anything from project to pristine is fine by me. I'm in northern New Jersey but willing to travel around the Northeast for the right bike.

I rode an FJ1100 back in 1985, and it left a lasting impression. These days I'm riding a Triumph Bonneville, but I'd really like to add an FJ to the garage.

If anyone's got leads, advice, or something they're willing to part with, I'd really appreciate it. Looking forward to learning from the group and contributing where I can!

Thanks,
-Dana

Fellow NJ here, I'm near Bridgewater, where are you near?

Good luck on your FJ search, keep poking around the internet I'm sure you can find something, although the "clean & solid" aspect may be difficult. Most of what I've seen are FJ's that sat for many years or are a bit banged up, but that's what ebay is for.

Thanks 86FJNJ.  I'm up near Westwood.

I suppose by clean and solid I meant 'not crashed or cut up' ;-)

This place is not far from me and he's had this posted for a while, it's a local bike shop.

Sounds like it needs the RPM spin on oil filter adapter to stop the leak and some TLC.

Dana,
I'm near the Rockies, so I have no leads for your purchase. As for advice, I recommend a newer FJ1200 instead of the 1984~1985 FJ1100.  The FJ1100 runs on 16" wheels, so tire choices are very limited.  The newer FJs can have 17" wheels, so tire choices will be from a much wider field.  Many FJ1100 owners upgrade the wheels to 17" for that reason.  Check the Internet for the specs of any bike you find.  Newer FJs can come with a fuel pump (not gravity feed), and rubber engine mounts.  Worth a look . . .
Tire ages: I would not run the beefy FJs on tires more than 8 years old, no matter what tread they may have left.  YMMV.  Click and scroll down.
