Title: Fairing failures
Post by: FJ1200W on August 25, 2025, 04:59:17 PM
Just noticed the fairings cracked enough to warrant action.

I guess it's time to pull it apart and get to work.

Fun fun, long overdue

Wow haven't seen one like that. Doesn't appear to be crash damage. What was the cause?

Looks like the lugs that hold the retaining clips that the screws tighten into have snapped off ?

Quite common as the plastic gets older.

Yes, broken tabs.

They were hot stapled and a few other issues addressed.

One thing I did different this time - I cut up a inner tube and make rubber pieces to fit everywhere the fairing attached to the frame.

Isolators of sorts.

Seemed to work, no more issues after a few hundred miles.

Thx

I cut up some A4 self adhesive foam sheets into the right sizes and shapes and used a simple hole punch for when I attached the foam pieces where fairing screws/bolts went through them. I put them everywhere a bit of bodywork came into contact with either another bit of bodywork, or the frame. That solved all of little buzziness from the plastics and also seemed to really help with stopping the panels cracking around the fastening points.   :good2:
