Welcome, that is a good looking "Theft Deterrent" White. I have the Dark version of your 89. The oil use may be valve guides. If so, they can be fixed without an engine rebuild. Lots of smoke on start up? How about after its warm?

Thanks! There is no smoke on start and after. She drinks 0,5 up to 1 liter per 1kkm, depends on my mood

FJ Monkey, my FJ smokes like a chimney for about a minute after start up but not after that. Are valve guides the same as valve seals? Can you elaborate on the fix without a rebuild? Previously somebody mentioned using rope to hold the valves in place and changing them out, is that what you would suggest?

I am pressed for time right now, but valve guide/seals have been covered in our maintenance section. I can check the files tonight. Or you can search as well. I recommend using Google to find the posts. In a google search include the words fjowners.com with the KEY words like valves or valve guide. Let me know if you still need help finding the posts.

Thanks FJMonkey, I searched around and found some threads. People talk about the rope trick, another used compressed air. Basically for me I've never done any engine work like that so I would really need a sequenced photo instruction or youtube video....but don't plan to tackle that now so not needed asap or anything. Thanks for you help and sorry to hijack the thread from our new member Tomek!

Welcome Tomek!

If you're having to add oil every 1k km at least you don't have to worry about oil changes!

Cheers lad.
