Title: Golan Fuel Filter - 10 Micron
Post by: 86FJNJ on July 13, 2025, 07:24:02 AM
Been cleaning out my rusted stock tank and would like to use it on my bike rather than the 1991 tank.

Not sure what micron the stock Yamaha filter is, anyone know? I'm guessing 40 micron or so.

Has anyone used these Golan fuel filters? I'm thinking to add one after my fuel pump. They are 10 micron filters and have a high flow rate and low pressure drop, made for motorcycle applications. Based on reviews on YouTube and their use in the aerospace industry I don't see any comments about fuel starvation. Seems like it would be a good thing to add to reduce rust from entering my carbs. Have to imagine somebody in this group already tried them.

I assume these can be disassembled to be cleaned?  They have hex fittings on the top and bottom but the advertisement didn't clarify.  Also, the spec for delta-P was confusing, perhaps just poor grammar?

Yes it says they are serviceable and the filter element is SS and just needs to be cleaned not replaced. I ordered one so I'll try it out and see. Says it flows 6gpm which it true would be more than enough for the FJ

Yamaha did not put a filter on the 84 to 87 years. Gravity feed is likely the issue. Any filter, other than the screen on the petcock, must be free flowing. If not, you have fuel delivery issues as the tank empties. Less pressure to push the fuel down.

I added a fuel pump to my FJ so it's no longer gravity fed. I have the yamaha filter from RPM under the tank right after the fuel valve. I'm not sure what micron that filter is but I imagine around 35 or 40? I've read that rust can be as small as 5 microns so that's why I'm interested to try this filter. IF it doesn't cause any fuel starvation on the FJ I see no reason to not run it on our FJ's with our aging fuel tanks. I plan to run the filter between pump and carbs to ensure it has enough pressure. Should arrive this weekend, will report back.
