Title: Axial to radial caliper conversion
Post by: roortcloud on July 03, 2025, 04:50:04 PM
Greetings
Has anyone found a manufacturer or supplier of a conversion kit (plate) from axial to radial front brake caliper?

To be honest, I'd doubt anyone would do that. It's a lot of work and time for a very small market, so I'd guess they would be prohibitively expensive (and clunky/heavy to add to the fork legs). You'll also need to factor in the cost of the actual calipers and the master cylinder.

Better to do a front end conversion for one with radial brakes (GSXR 1000, as Fred has done) - not cheap, but a functionally better solution.

You know I have 2008 gixxer 1000 front ends on three of my bikes. I had extensions welded to the top plates on the  three sets. I have on my bikes now. Sold the extensions I had made to Fred and others on the forum. I was riding the 92 that I just bought. And I was like. Man there's something wrong with the brakes on this thing. I stopped a throughly checked them out. They are mint. Good pads no oil on them. Good disc's.  Then I remembered. It's because I've been riding bikes with the gixxer brakes. I  forgot. How bad the stock brakes are compared to the gixxers.  :pardon:

Pics of the extensions welded to the top plates on gixxer forks.

Another
They welded the tubes onto the plates and machined them down to match the diameter of the forks. I made them a little longer so I could slide the clippon bars up about an inch for slabbing. Then slide them back down when I got to the corners.

The best braking set up I've seen on a FJ Dan, excellent craftsmanship. :good2:

Dan does get all the credit for the GSX-R1000 front end mod.
With that said, The radial brakes are incredible. Here is a photo of the tires on Casper after a clean 8 mile run on the Tail of the Dragon. This is a result of phenomenal brakes.
