Hiya,
This is John from Colorado. Just purchased an 84 Fj1100 with 33k miles. Its in great shape for the age, just needed a loving owner to fix it up a bit. An oil change, carb overhaul including a dynojet kit, new battery and plastics repair made it rideable again. As a teen I had posters of this bike on my wall, now I'm thrilled to own one. I've owned several bikes over the years but I really enjoy bringing retro machines back to life. Funny thing, I maintain commercial jets for a living which I love as well as repairing and riding motorcycles but I really dislike working on cars... Anyway props and much respect for riders in general as well as members of this forum. Keep your head on a swivel!
Glad you were able to save another classic. I'm with you on the older retro stuff. Vehicles of any sort are way better now than ever before but the older I get the more I fall back to the older stuff from my heyday growing up. Born in '74, I like more and more stuff from the late 70's, 80's and into the early 90's.
The old stuff is much easier to understand when it comes to fixing them. Yeah, carbs can be a PIA when they misbehave but try fixing something like my 2013 6.7 liter duel turbocharged diesel. Pop the hood and I dare you to try and find the stupid fuse box. You need a step tool and a double jointed wrist just to fish the box cover off. The new bikes with FI run great right up until they don't....

Tell me about it. I've got a Triumph Tiger 800XC ABS which i've had from new and serviced it all myself. I keep saying it's going but haven't got round to it yet. Will be taking it to France next month and you can't beat it for just exploring the back lanes and out of the way places.
Welcome! :drinks:
Where abouts in Colorado? There is a growing contingent of us here it seems
Welcome John, there is indeed something special about those '84's.
Let us know how we can help.
May I suggest that you modify your forum profile and put in your signature line that you have a 1984 FJ1100. This info will automatically appear on all your posts so you won't have to remind us. This helps us help you.
Cheers
Pat
Ok im learning how to use the fkruma on the fly so please forgive errors. I live in lakewood co near 6th and garrison.
Took her out for a spin up lookout mountain today. No hardcore knees to tbe ground, thats way beyond my skill level. Had a great ride! Shes definitely happy to have a new and caring owner.
I recently owned and sold my 2010 Bmw R1200rt to a friend. That bike is a completely different riding experience. I enjoyed it while i owned it but really long rides arent for me so it went to a good home. Plus I really missed the humm of an inline 4!
Welcome!
