Title: Turned 68
Post by: FJ1200W on April 19, 2025, 05:58:59 PM
Rolled over 68,000 miles today, original engine never opened up.
Going to need tires this season.
Probably attention to the rear suspension links, they've never been touched.
Overall checks, you know, prep for the season.
Check the valves, balance carbs, replace plugs, check stock air filter.
Fix cracked plastic bits, what I do not know but you know they're there.
Fun stuff

They just keep on going, that's nearly 110,000 kilometres in my language and it still looks Marvellous.

yeah cracks in plastics, I know what you mean as do others.

By the title, thought it was a birthday milestone

Had a buddy stop by for a nice ride today, he mentioned tires, and I'm getting tired looking for tires.

Is the only matched set the Shinko 011 Front & Rear Verge Tires?

That just make me sad, color me stupid, I prefer a name brand tire.

I may crumble and do the rear wheel conversion, whatever the latest greatest easiest version may be.

A buddy is trying to talk me into buying his Concours 1400, but who wants another 100 pounds of motorcycle?

I failed to keep up with the news, "Avon Tires may be difficult to find due to the factory closing its doors in December 2023 after 112 years of production."

68,000 just got it broke in eh
I bought shinkos for the 85 vmax I aquired with 4000 miles on it. And I think that's what I bought for the 93 Vance n Hines limited fzr600. Seem like good tires I wouldn't want to go 185 or perhaps a little past 200mph. I think I'll get some name brand tires for that.

Well I bit the bullet, it is not like we really have any options at this point in time.

(Side note: I really DNGAF if someone got a better deal. Dennis Kirk used to mail us kids these big thick catalogs, "dream books", way back in the last century. Now I give them all the business I can, within reason. If they're a little higher, I think about it for a moment, and realize, that it is probably legal in their state as well.) ;)

My FJ1100 runs on Pirelli Sport Demons.  Bias ply, matched, good grip; I really like them.

Unfortunately, the rear is out of stock, Shinko was literally my last grasp at a matched set.

I'm sure that will change with time.

We used to be able to get Pirellis through Western Powersports but something must be going on as they have dropped all Pirelli products.

It's turmoil unlike anything I can remember seeings. Even the sketchy backup sources, eBay, Amazon, others, are all out of stock.

Tires arrived, I am going to wear my old ones out aka there is a burnout or two in my near future.

A nice older BMW R100RS pulled into the grocery store a couple of days ago.

Out of towner, I welcome them.

Do you also can see some of the Hans Muth styling complemented by the Japanese engineers in the FJ1100 1200 series?
