Woohoo! Just got a brand new never installed supertrapp super light stainless steel exhaust. Spotless not a single scuff anywhere. Even though they are probably at least 30 years old.
Came with muffler for 86. Muffler for 88-93. All the hardware and disc's for both mufflers. Unwrapped them to inspect everything. And carefully put the wrapping back on until I put it on one of the bikes.
An old Supertrapp add I bought off fleabay when I was looking for the exhaust.
I fell in love with the FJ Supertrapp sound years ago. Andy French, Paul Lawson and I were riding from the Petaluma WCR to Gunnison Colorado for the Central FJ Rally. As we were riding thru Bryce Canyon Utah, Andy stopped for some pictures and Paul and I rode ahead for a couple of miles where we stopped at an overlook to wait for Andy to catch up....
Andy has a Supertrapp on his FJ and we could hear Andy coming from miles away....that ripping sound of that 4 into 1 on Andy's FJ as he hauled ass through the canyon, 3rd gear music echoing off the rock walls.......
....it sounded absolutely fucking glorious.
That's awesome! Wish I was there. I love the sound and I weighed the stock vrs the supertrapp. I can't remember because it was several years ago. But 26lbs lighter comes to mind. I know it was in the 20s.
Plus they look great.
Peeps,
I have fond memories of that trip from the WCR to the Central Rally and remember distinctly the expression on Pat's face as I caught them up. That Supertrapp was a winner, but the collector pipes weld broke when enroute to Franks WCR a couple of years later.
Paul up in Carson City fronted up with a standard system and that's been on there ever since. Much as I miss the clean look and banshee wail, I've really got comfortable with the stealthy, low noise OEM set up. It's less of a law magnet, and the extra weight is low down, so doesn't effect handling.
It's true that those Supertrapps are now super rare. I spent ages looking for a replacement, then as time wore on, gave up and focused on the quiet hum of the standard symphony.
