Took oil pan off to check and replace gasket. Having a hard time getting gasket off, is there any trick to it? I tried using a sharp razor but that seems to scrape into the metal so I stopped.
Also when I pulled the exhaust there only appears to have been tow exhaust gaskets, there is one on pipe 3 and the other fell off so not sure where it was but I don't see any other gaskets in the heads. Do I put in 4 new gaskets? Did the last person who did this leave two out?
Removing old gaskets from aluminum is a pain!
I think they make some hard plastic style scrapers for this.
Look really carefully for exhaust gaskets - both in the head, and on the ends of the header pipes. I've ended up with two gaskets in place before ... should have paid more attention!
After trying many other things, what worked in getting the gasket off was a tungsten gasket scraper from amazon, although it did dig into the aluminum a bit so I then made a block sander from a piece of 2x4 and some 400 grit sand paper to level it out. hopefully I never have to take the oil pan off again
