G'day gang,
Been a while, but I've been busy FJing :good2:.
Anyhoo, the above question has been flung around at various rallies and on this forum many times.
Yamaha kindly sent me the VIN list which you can find in the files section here.
So, in the interest of complete procrastination at work I sat down to break-down the FJ VIN range to try and find what is the rarest FJ :morning2:.
Whilst I was at it I decided to work out what is the most common FJ and here are the answers:
The RAREST by shortest production run was the 50J with two piddley runs of 899 each, totalling 1798 units made, one run in 84 and one in 85, both runs the FJ1100N models destined for USA/Oz/NZ/RSA. All in ambo colours.
Biggest production run was the 3XW with production starting in 91 and continuing until 94 totalling 22791 units.
These were a variety of FJ1200, with variants being FJ1200ABS, FJ1200'91, FJ1200'92, and FJ1200'93.
Colours were WPB+SW (USA only), SW+WPB ((USA, EU and Spain), WPB and MAS (USA EU), MAS+WPB (Spain only).
My guess is any that made their way to Oz came via Europe as they assembled them in Holland by the thousand, and I know some came here as excess stock. Some also would have made their way here from the US.
So, anyone with a 50J, you can shout loud and proud yours is the rarest :drinks: :drinks: :drinks:
