Will give my location a bit later ;^) cuz honor thieves and for sale ads...

gggGary,
The rear shock is expensive.
Check for rust in the gas tank.
All four header pipes should get hot fast at start-up. If not, there may be carb and/or spark problems.
Check chain and sprockets for wear. Find out how.
Check all fluids. Easy to replace hydraulic fluids with Speedbleeders.com which makes it a one-person job.
The older FJs have 16" wheels, and very few tire brands make that size now.
Check the age of the tires here (click and scroll down); old tires are not safe, with the brawny FJ:

Many here get rare and OEM parts from RPM; the FJ is their specialty.
Best wishes . . .
Thanks for the info! But I missed out on this one. :dash2: Always liked the FJ12's.
Later GG
GG, sorry about the miss. keep looking, I found an FJ and a Honda Hawk GT last year, so 2 new projects to fix up. There are decent ones out there. Keep lurking around here and pick up as much info as you can on them. check out the files section and the mods section too.
Well the miss turned into a hit! buyer #1 bailed and I got the call and hit the road immediately.
Seller said needs battery and fuel pump, rode it last year. Came with a new fuel pump with too large ports and that's where he quit messing with it.
Got the old pump to live but it leaks. Was able to use it fed from a test tank with a new lithium battery, about a dozen cycles of the pump and vroom vroom. Sounds healthy ran and idled with the choke off after a minute and sounds great. Will do some fuel line adapters and should be able to test ride it tomorrow. Will need a new rear tire and chain and prolly front tire on age. After a round of wake up maint should be good to go!
Allison approves!
Congratulations! Welcome to the tribe!
Excellent! Looks like a good one!
Search around and ask questions - a ton of knowledge and experience and good people on this site. :drinks:
Conggrats! and welcome to the fj forum the bike looks great ! If you need parts for your bike you can get almost everything at RPM the foundation of the forum :good2:
Welcome to the FJ campfire.
Good for you! Welcome!
Caltric 535 virago fuel pump arrives today so a ride of more than a mile should be in the offing. Then make the tire choice, Shinko 777 R verge 2 F in the lead. Not much fitz that 16" rear.

Ah, found the
verge for the rear! Now we're talking.
Avon Spirit ST has been the best choice for me (in the oem 150/80-16 size)
Got the caltric pump, sloshed a bit of rust out the tank, split the pump to carb fuel line, hilarity and three airbox out/in's followed, got it all fit together, sealed and working, finally!
Rode 20 miles today, All seems good lot of fun she's running smooth and power seems appropriate. Prolly the only decent weather day this week. So oil and tire changes up next.
ABS lights work as they should, the ABS brakes, nope, slid both tires.... :shok: Some searching here on ABS systems in my future. Brakes are working good after removing rear pads, cleaning exercising pistons. 4,000 miles in last twelve years, not a surprise the ABS is inop.
