Title: Press start, 1 click. then nothing.
Post by: Loukiii on December 30, 2022, 10:07:49 AM
I turn on the key, neutral light comes on. Pull choke, press start, engine cranked and then went dead. No lights, no clock, nothing. Checked fuses all good.

Turn on key neutral light comes on, 1 click and dead. engine did not turn over. no lights no clock nothing. turned key off clock is on. turn key on no neutral light clock goes out.

Turn on kill switch turn off kill switch, turn key, neutral light is back. press start. 1 click dead. same as above.

I saw the thread about cleaning the kill switch but I figured I would put this up here before I start messing with stuff.  I will clean the kill switch while I wait for replies.

Try cleaning your battery terminals. It sounds a lot like a loose or dirty ground connection.

Dying battery, now dead.

My guess is a broken or shorted  plate(s) in the battery so that you may have enough to give near 12v and light your neutral bulb but not enough to crank the motor.
Try another battery or jumping from a known good battery.

Weirdest thing I ever saw. I charge the battery, test with volt meter 12+ volts... try to start, click pop. Test battery 10 volts. Put battery on charger says fully charged in like a minute.
So I am getting a new battery. Hopefully that is all it is.

That is a classic sign of a bad battery. Pat had it right on the money.

Same thing on my son's V30 Magna.  Classic dead battery syndrome.  His bike charges too high and the battery was boiled down.  We added water and it sort of works - but a new battery is on the way.

Yep. It was the battery. Thank goodness.
I have had low and dead batteries before but never that behaved like this.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Glad you solved it. Bad batteries manifest in weird ways on old bikes.
