As much as I love this bike, I just don't ride anymore and it is time to let it go. I purchased this bike in 2005 from the Bay Area. The prior owner purchased the bike in 1994 in California, and he replaced the bodywork with a NOS tank, fairing and side panels some time in the early 2000's. I had this in a collection of approximately 15 bikes here in LA for several years, but as I started to thin out my collection of bikes, I shipped this to North Carolina in 2009 or 2010, where I had a home with my now ex-wife. I had the bike serviced at the local dealer who replaced the tires and rebuilt the carbs at that time, and I drove it once or twice in NC, but it mostly sat in the garage and then the basement. Long story short, I had the bike sent back to California a couple of years ago. We recently went through the bike to get it roadworthy again. Fluids were changed, new brake and clutch master cylinders, carbs cleaned and tuned, new pod air filters, new battery and a few other miscellaneous things. The bike fires up instantly and runs great. While the tires appear new, they are older and I would suggest replacement before any serious riding, but this is otherwise ready to ride. An excellent example in excellent condition, with a V&H SSR2 exhaust and Corbin seat, and approximately 14,500 miles. I have the lower cowl somewhere. She looks very nice, with some good touches, but $4,900 is a strong asking price for an 86 that isn't basically a museum piece. Good luck with the sale, IMO these bikes are worth every bit of what you're asking, but FJ's are vastly underrated/undervalued in the marketplace right now.
Van Nuys Kalifornia is not far from me, I frequently pass into or through once or twice a week. So if a potential buyer is interested, I could take a look at it and kick the tires. Schedule permitting of course. My first FJ (project bike now) is an 86'.
