Title: Ohio FJ
Post by: maxherman05 on September 07, 2022, 06:57:18 AM
Hello everyone. My name is Max (you can see on my username) I am from Solon ohio. I am currently 17 years old and started riding street bikes when I was about 14. My first bike was a little 250 enduro my second bike was a 1980 Honda gold wing gl1100 and my 3rd bike was a 97 Yamaha fzr600. I now have the beloved 92 FJ1200. I love it. I am new here so I am still trying to figure everything out on the forums but I am starting to get the hang of it. Anyways, I hope you guys are have a great day and remember, it's always a good day to ride the FJ!

Welcome, Max!  That's an impressive list of different bikes for a 17yo.  I think you'll find the FJ to be a great mix of all those bikes except maybe for the dirty bike.

Welcome Max. Do you still have all of those bikes? There is plenty of information on FJs here.

Welcome Max!
One of the many things we love about our FJ's is that they are easy to work on and modify.
Check out our Files section. Our forum sponsor RPM has many items that you may need for your FJ.

Enjoy your bike and ride well.

Pat

Max,
Welcome to the FJ campfire!  Pull up a seat, kick your shoes off, relax, and be among friends.
Did you get maintenance records with the FJ?  If not, the Previous Owner make have them for you.
Good to know what was done lately, and what remains to be done.
Refer to Pat Conlon's signature links (above) for the big important stuff.
Once you get some miles on the FJ, you may want to upgrade a few things.  No wild rush, there.
We have a long list of good upgrades and tech write-ups here, for you or your mechanic-guy.
Miles of smiles ahead . . .
:bye2:

Thank you guys so much for the warm welcomes. I am aware of the RPM parts site and I love it. I've bought a slave cylinder for the fj off of their and I also purchased the spin on oil filter conversion. I think my next upgrade is going to be the oil cooler but I'm not sure yet. I just tested the compression yesterday on the bike to see the life of the engine. All cylinders were around 140 PSI! I'm glad to have a very healthy engine. I've had the fj for a couple months now and I love it so much I will figure out how to send pictures of her.

Wow, an FJ at 17.  I would have been in trouble!  I was riding around on a GN400 back then.  I still have it, rode it today.  It's my only bike until I get the carbs sorted out on the FJ.  Welcome to the forum.

No doubt!  My XJ650 Seca was plenty to get me in trouble back then!

Welcome!   :good2:

Welcome, I was late to this party, so much of the good stuff is now covered. Maybe some Thermite in the digital campfire will do the trick?

We still need Dean to show up and say something like "bloody hell!  In England at 17 you are only allowed a moped with a carb restrictor and a fouled spark plug."

Nah, that's at 16 Brian, at 17 you're allowed to unleash all the power of a 12 bhp restricted 125 - and if you're under 21, once you've passed your very in depth riding tests (theory and practical/riding including an observed road ride), you're only allowed onto a max 33 bhp bike for 2 years, before you can move into something more powerful.

The rules are getting even tougher now, with more restricted categories to make sure new older riders don't have any freedom either........... and they wonder why Bike sales in the UK are still in the doldrums....

Welcome in Max, you're lucky (on the one hand) to be able to ride bikes like that a at such a young age (open jealousy here) and it does sound as though you're responsible enough to not do anything silly. :good2:

Max,

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that there are multiple FJ gatherings around the country, usually called an FJ Rally. The East Coast Fall FJ Rally is in about a week (3rd weekend in Sept.) in Tellico Plains, TN. It's really short notice for this upcoming rally but the East Coast Spring FJ Rally is in Boone, NC the 3rd weekend in May. Boone is about 7-1/2 hours drive from your town. Tellico Plains is about 8-1/2 hours away from you.

I was riding my dad's cb750 when I was 14. He didn't know of course. Didn't get my first fj till I was 22.
They are the best all around bike ever made.
Have fun.
Be sure to get to a rally. You'll be glad you did.

I was riding my dad's cb750 when I was 14. He didn't know of course.

I had  a friend like you in highschool . He one time showed up in his step dad's XKE so I could see how cool it was to drive. He had the six cylinder. It didn't have much snap off the line but if you kept your foot in it the car would do 120+.
He got away with most of his escapades but one day he showed up at school just before lunch to ask me a favor. He wanted me to help him pick up his step dad's almost new BMW R75/5 . I asked him where it was and he told me ten miles up the dirt road that went to the repeating station at the top of peavine mountain . We got into my  old 51 Willy's pickup and drove up. When we got up to it I could see he had laid it over on the left side and knocked the cylinder barrel off. It caught fire after that so he put it out with handfuls of dirt.
We loaded it up into my truck and drove it home. When we got there we unloaded it and rolled it into the garage and gave it an inspection. I remember the connecting rod protruding from the case bent like a candy cane with no piston. Dirt all over the oil covered engine and inside the crankcase.
His step dad showed up shortly after. I still remember the look on his face when my friend told him that he and I were going to fix it for him.
