Title: bought a motorcyce for my wife
Post by: Mark Olson on May 24, 2010, 02:26:24 AM
well I finally went and did it , found a cherry 92 Suzuki gs500e with only 9000 mi. previous owner female.

found it in the garage of my next door neighbor who I just  met.

scored it for 750.00 bucks

gave it to my wife as a birthday present.

looks very little next to the fj.

life is good.

Congratulations Mark!  What a cool little bike!  I bet it will still go pretty good...

So - your wife already rides?  What color is it?

the story is as follows: way back in the day , when I was in refrigeration school in phoenix az. 1990 I believe, I was riding a honda cb550 and my wife showed interest in learning to  ride a motorcycle . so after she tried a few times on it, I found her a 85 honda rebel 250. she took to it like a duck to water. she can also drive a stick shift car so the principles of downshifting and clutch operation are natural for her.
we rode around az. for a few years then moved to socal. and sold the bikes.
moved back to sacramento and she suffered a brown recluse spider bite that has left her disabled and unable to ride for the last 15 yrs. new treatments and therapy have made her well again and she is ready to ride.
tired of just riding on the back of the fj she wanted her own bike.
her brother had a suzuki gs500 years ago and she rode that and liked it so thats what I was looking for.

pure dumb luck I was taking out the trash and introduced myself to my new neighbor and lo and behold a suzuki sitting in the  garage neglected and unloved. I asked about the" old motorcycle" just collecting dust and found out it belonged to the mother of one of his roommates and she had been thinking of selling it.He promised to call her and find out. The next day I am working in the garage and I hear a starter cranking next door . being the good neighbor I venture over to help . needless to say  the bike is running in 5 minutes. price haggling ensues and the mom is happy to be relieved of a bike she doesn't need, everybody wins.

My wife is very happy with her black and purple 92 gs550e suzuki and is studying the motorcyce drivers handbook as I write this.
pics to follow.

Pat, I don't think she will be rally ready in time , long rides and lots of turns to go through and she has to get her m1.

we shall see. I gotta learn her up on the ways of the 2 wheel beastie.

Great score on the bike, the rally is still three weeks off I'm sure a couple weekend rides and some during the week and she'll get all those old skills right back. Hope to see you both there. :good2:
