Title: I Need A Recommendation For Mechanic or Shop Near Princeton, NJ
Post by: Jack on August 03, 2022, 10:25:10 AM
Hello Fellow FJ Riders!

I have just arrived in the Princeton, NJ area with my 92 FJ 1200, which I had to trailer to our new address. For the first time in my ownership of two FJs ('91 and '92) work I did on the carbs has rendered my bike un-startable. I need help. Recommendations from the FJ riding community would be very welcome.  I'd like to get back touring before it gets cold.

BTW, I buy all my parts from RPM

Jack,

I'd give +1 on RPM carb service.  They have the unique expertise, they replace the O-rings, and if requested, they can switch the carb screws to more reliable Allens (if that has not been done already).  At your altitude, you may not need any further carb tuning there.  If time presses, go with rapid shipping (even USPS) each way.  A local guy may not do as well, or even be done sooner, if subject to supply-chain issues for parts.
All IMHO, of course.

Another plus for RPM.  Also, most local shops don't work on old bikes, especially ones with carbs couple that with the fact that many of their "mechanics" have been born after the "carb age".......

+1 for RPM

After Robert fixes you up, don't store your FJ with your carbs full of E10 (ethanol 10%) fuel.

....then again, Robert does have a payroll deduction plan available for repeat offenders.
