For the day when the ebay link is no longer valid, the title is "Rear wheel & tire YZF600R Yamaha yzf 600 r 95-07 #HH2."
So is 97-04 still valid? Or is 95-07 correct?
Here's a simple way to answer your question:
Looking up the Yamaha part # for the YZF600R rear rim, I see this same part is shared by several year 1996-2007 YZF600R models. I don't see 1995 listed as sharing the same rim.

Thanks Pat! I am a fan of stock bikes, but the 150/80 16 tyres are getting rare. On one seller I saw 3 Avon models and 1 Shinko.
So if I was to move to a Thundercat rear wheel, is my stock front wheel (and tires that fit) still a good match?
Yes, my first 17" conversion on my '84 was the YZF600 rim... it worked great.
I only changed it when I went with the entire back end off the YZF1000 Thunder Ace.
Note that the YZF600R rim is only 5" wide, not 5.5" like the other popular 17" rims.
So that means with a 5" wide YZF600R rim your tire size should be a 170/60-17 tire which is a good choice.
The slightly narrower 170/60 back tire I felt was more agile than the wider 180/55 tires. It fit the FJ great.
Truth be told, I kinda liked my old 170/60 tire better than my current 180/55 tire.
On your front rim, I am not a fan of the oem FJ 3" wide front rim....it's too narrow for the modern front tires. A proper size for our heavy and fast FJ's (IMHO) is a 3.5" wide front rim so you can use a proper 120/70-17 front tire and get the correct profile and contact patch.
I think the front is more important to correct than the back.
Yes, I know that 16" tires are getting hard to find, but as long as you can get the excellent Avon 3D radial in the 150/80-16 size I would concentrate on getting the proper width front rim first....then do the rear rim conversion.
Again, just my opinion, based on my experience. .

Just something to add, (which I was unaware of) if you have an 1100, to change front to 17, you need some replacement forks and calipers to suit the new disc that goes with going to a 17 front.

Thanks. Mine is an '89 with the 17" front. My thought was that if I needed to change the front with the rear, it would be USD forks this time.
Ye gods, I'm getting as bad as you guys.
USD's are the bomb.
On the 3.5" rims: The 87/88 FZR1000/750 front rims are scarce (uses15mm axle)
The '89-'93 FZR rims are more available but they use a 17mm axle.
The stronger 17mm axle is a good thing on our FJ's so I would drill out my fork legs for the bigger axle and use the later FZR rims. There is plenty of meat on those fork legs for a 17mm axle.

In addition to what Pat said, on that link you posted, there's mention of machining sprocket carrier - ignore that, it doesn't need doing. The FJ sprocket has a shoulder that goes on the outside on a standard FJ, when you fit a YZF 600R rear wheel, just turn a FJ sprocket around with the shoulder to the inside of the wheel. Problem solved, no work, or machining :good2:
I absolutely love the way mine steers and turns in, with a FZR 3.5" front wheel, the YZF 600 5" rear wheel, 120/70x17 and 170/60x17 tyre's and the rear end jacked up about 15mm (accounting for the slightly smaller diameter of the rear tyre vs a 150/80x16) with shorter dog bones. Fantastic mods :good2:

Add in a good shock with some fork springs w/valves & fork brace, blue spots and call it a day.
