Title: We have RPM for Yamaha FJ Parts but
Post by: gumby302ho on June 22, 2022, 09:51:11 AM
So I am in need of a rare part it seems. All I need is a shifter shaft seal for 1984 Ninja 900. Cant find a supplier. We are blessed with RPM for
our FJs but does anyone know of a good kawasaki supplier that might have this. Partsilla does not even show the seal, calls it a spacer. I even
had a new one on the shelf from PO but it was the wrong one for the bike. It sits and slowly leaks until I get a seal for it. This is the A1 model,
the very first badged ninja. My 86 FJ Ambulance and the 84 Ninja 900 in red are the two best looking bikes for me from the eighties bla bla dont shoot me.

Maybe MoparMan (Steve) can help. He owned one for many years thinking he was Tom Cruise in Top Gun. He kind of is, last time we rode together. I will ping him.

Its been a long time since I've been to this site, but when I had a KZ1000 this was my go to.  If I'm remembering correctly they had some ZX parts years ago, not sure if they'd have your hard to find part though.

If you don't have any luck finding the seal with a Kawasaki part number, using this site may be an option.  I've used it for automotive applications that are no longer in a catalog.  You can interchange numbers or search by shaft and/or bore dimension.  Once you find a number it (usually) shows full dimensions, pictures, and a cross section.

Like we can do with Yamaha part numbers, can you cross reference the part number with other Kawasaki bikes?
I have to believe that Kawasaki used this shaft seal on other models.

Have the folks on the Ninja forum helped?

If you can shoot my a photo of the seal you are looking for. A side shot of the engine and then a little closer to the specific seal.

I have a source that needs to confirm which seal you require.

Sent them to sales@rpmracingca.com

Its the common seal in behind the shifter that seals into the case from the outside behind sprocket cover. I will try to get a picture but I never post much on here becasue I forget the steps to do so everytime. There was a seal on flea bay that covered many models but not this 84. I emailed a kawi dealer but never heard back. I will see what I can get done after work today. Thanks for the offer.

I did try this site but I dont think they enjoy the newer 84 liquid putting the old z1 out to pasture so no parts.

Send the photos to my email, no need to post here.

I understand which seal you are describing, the supplier is asking for the photo to ensure he can supply it.

So the seal that is in there now fell in place, it was too small although it looks alright it is not. I tried to send the picture of the original
1984 shifter seal as well. I hope you can see it.

Well posting sure got easier. I remember you had to put the file in quotes or brackets bla bla, much nicer now. Just to show you gents a 1984 Ninja. Its like a nice guitar that rarely gets played as the FJ does all the heavy lifting and I will see if I can find a nice pic of FrankenJ

I had the same stable of horses for awhile --84 Ninja and my FJs --86 -90 -- I loved the Ninja but I didn't use it enough and had to release it to the wild.  I can't help much with parts as I did not have the issue.  Only item I replaced was the T-stat.   Ninja always overheated in traffic or agressive riding here in SoCal --- its just not cool enough outside to keep that beast running on the cold side of things.

If you live in hotter climates -- wire the fan to a switch to be able to manually turn it on --it helps a little to switch it on prior to the 220 temps it autos to,

Don,

The seal arrived today. I would like to get an OD measurement to ensure it is the correct one.
