Anyone else running an ignitech tcip4 ignition box?
I run one on my venture/vmax and really like the programability of it. I've ordered one for my 89 FJ and was wondering if anyone else is using one on an FJ.
I'm kind of eyeballing the ability of the ignitech to run individual coils instead of "wasted spark". Seems a better way to go if swapping to cop. I know they can be run in wasted spark mode and probably no real performance gain running non-wasted spark, but it seems to me individual coils would open up the possibility of not needing to run wasted spark.
Also looking at swapping to tps instead of map sensor. Map is good for engine load, but tps offers far most precise control on the spark map vs throttle opening. Best of both worlds would be tos and map, but I don't see that as an option in the ignitech software.
Sequential ignition requires a cam angle signal which you do not have.
Batch ignition (aka wasted spark) only requires a crank signal, which is what you have.
I would like to learn more about the tcip4 ignition on your FJ.

I know the FZ1 carbs I'm considering using when my FJ diaphragms eventually die, have a TPS - maybe that's something you could pioneer for us too, in partnership with the tcip4 ?
Looking at the website - lists $153 for it! Haven't looked at the software yet, but that would be real tempting if I still had carbs ....

200 bucks to my door for the ignitech. Thats canadian dollars....
Cool beans....does that include an aftermarket pickup or does it use your oem pickup?

Uses your oem pickup. They even come with connectors for your model to plug right in where the original box does.
If you can score a set of mid 2000 XJR carbs from Europe or Australia they have TPS on them already. They are power restricted with different slides and jets but everything from the FJ carb internals can be swapped over and you would have a TPS.

I know a fella that runs one on a CBX....very versatile especially with advance curves. A lot of power packed in a small package.
I'm eyeballing the tcip4 ignition box for my '86 rebuild. The old stock wiring on it is in rough shape in a couple of spots and I'm also considering the Motogadget mo.unit blue to help simplify totally rewiring the bike and to add some modern features.

Turns out sequential coil firing is a part of the TCIP4 and it doesn't need a cam sensor. What it does is use the map sensor to detect when cylinder #1 is on its intake stroke and fires each plug sequentially based on that reference and the 4 stroke properties of each cylinder having a compression and exhaust cycle.
Probably not as precise as a cam sensor, but certainly a workable ignition scheme.
