Title: Looking for a carb rebuild kit
Post by: great white on April 02, 2022, 12:52:15 PM
So, my 89 fj1200 has the "ovalized" emulsion tube problem. They're in decent shape otherwise. The bike runs ok, other than a richness issue (ovaled emulsion tubes). I figured if I was going to tear them down again, I might as well throw a complete kit in them.

But, I'm having trouble finding a complete kit for an 88-90. If I wanted to pop 200+ cdn I can find them, but that's a bit pricey for a rebuild kit IMHO.

I can find lots of reasonably priced 84-87 and 91-94 kits (mostly keyster), but a separate kit is listed for 88-90 and everyone seems to be "out of stock" on that kit.

Anyone know what the difference is between the model years (84-87, 88-90 and 91-94) for the carb kits? I can't see it being much more than the jet sizes because as far as I know, the carb bodies themselves were the same throughout the model run.....

I'll close out my own thread since no one seems to know the answer or has seen the post to make an answer.

I just side stepped the entire issue and ordered 4 emulsion tubes via RPM.

You did it correctly. By ordering from RPM you are going to get the correct factory Mikuni part.

Ordering from a FleaBay vendor....not so much.

Don't be so quick to give up on us - with the new host/system, we're not seeing new posts in the same way used to do and to be fair, sometimes it can be quite quiet on here for a couple of days at a time as a lot of members have busy lives outside of their FJ's.

Had I seen your post though, like Pat, I would have suggested you go to RPM - best place in the USA/Canada for those hard to source FJ parts.  :good2:

Yep, that's why I said "or has seen the post" to my reply.
