Title: added another yamaha to the collection
Post by: 5speed on February 16, 2022, 02:46:16 PM
brought it home a couple of months ago. belonged to a friend of mine. he laid it down 2 years ago to avoid hitting an elderly man that cut across in front of him on a mobility scooter.
it's a 2000 roadstar 1600.
the tank took the brunt of the damage.
Well my friend took a bit more. 9 cracked ribs, broken collar bone and scapula. his wife put her foot down..no more bikes.
if it is as comfortable as I think it is..it will replace my 82 gl1100 for long rides.
love my wing but my legs get cramped up on long rides and although I messed around with highway pegs on it I can't get comfortable due to the width of the engine.
I'm making some small modifications to it..shortened the rear fender, replaced the ugly factory tail light and signal lights.
I..well my paint and body guy is going to scallop the sides of the tank like they did back in the day. cutting the sides out will make it easier to fix the dents.
I cut one side out as he wasn't excited about the tank going boom. lol

With your upper body injuries, I can see that bike being a nightmare for you to ride once it's done.

Having the wind pushing against your chest and shoulders in the low-butt feet forward riding position might not be as comfortable as you think !

I found touring on a XS 650 was a pain at over 60 mph for any length of time when I was a lot younger  :sarcastic: Under that speed it was a sheer delight.
