Hi all, firstly thankyou for approving me on the forum :)
I got a FJ1200 that has sat for 4 years, and so the callipers were dragging. So i systematically removed the pistons one at a time, removed the seals, cleaned all the crud out and fitted new piston seals to all 8 pistons at the front and the the two at the back. I made sure i took my time cleaning the crud in the seal channels, Used none genuine seals and Pyramid brake pads, which i had to remove the paint on the edges on the one pair as they wouldnt fit the calliper. Since then the brakes were fine until a test ride in which the ABS kept flashing and the the brakes are now binding on worse. There is an issue with the rear disc being cracked, which will be replaced with new disc and pads.
Im looking for tips as to why
1- the brakes are now binding after a test ride( im thinking the pads are binding, as i had to file one set to remove paint- calliper had no corrosion in pad travel area)
2- abs light flashes constantly
3- how to bring up fault codes, to see what ABS fault code there might be
Any other advice on this braking issue would be much appreciated, thanks in advance :)
The pads are not retracting. I suspect the problem resides in your master cylinder. The reservoir gets full of crud and at the bottom is a relief port that gets plugged. You have to remove the splash shield at the bottom of the reservoir to properly clean this area.
Welcome Ann, I hope this helps.

Well I pushed dirt into the bores when servicing my ST years ago because I didn;t clean the extended pistons of crud when I pushed them in to fit new pads but this is not your problem. Hoses? disconnect ABS?

Hi Pat,
thanks for the reply, i will look into that, as you could have point as its stood for about four years unused , brakes were binding badly, once rebuild they were free, after an aborted test ride they were hot and dragging.. with abs flashing.
you you could be right

Its just funny it was fine until a test ride, im kind of guessing ABS valve sticking, blockage like another reply mentioned. Front hoses are upgraded braided type. It will be friday before i get a change to look at it again
