I just received my reservation confirmation from the KOA in Boone. Has everyone made their reservations? Kristina is asking me because she hasn't heard from anyone else. Make sure you mention the FJ Rally as I think they give us a little bit of a discount on the rate.

I haven't made reservations yet, but I'm planning on it.

I don't think I'm camping, I think Boone 2021 might be my last time sleeping on the ground in 45F temperatures.

My reservation has been made. This will be my first, east coast rally and I am looking to it. The last rally I was able to attended was WCR 2019. That means i'm overdue.

I have room for another person if you want to split the cost of a cabin.

Best wishes

Kurt,

Keep in mind that although we've had good luck over the years in Boone, sometimes there is fog an colder temps in the morning or pouring rain, to the tune of 5" in a day. Most of the time the weather is in the acceptable to good range. Just make sure you pack clothes for all conditions or you may be heading into town for more appropriate clothing. ;^) It's all good.

Oh, and there will be a bonfire regardless of the weather conditions.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to start getting the bike ready, this weekend. By the time I get back home, it should be over 5,000 miles on this trip.

Paul,

If you haven't been to an ECSR, the "official" dates are usually the Fri./Sat./Sun. (3rd weekend in May). Several of us arrive earlier, my wife Kris and I should arrive on Mon. 5/16 and we'll be leaving on Sun. I'll see if I can convince her to ride down to the 2 stroke rally on Tue. or Wed. but it would make for a long day at about 200 mi. each way. We'll see, it's a shorter ride from Tellico to Deal's Gap during the Fall Rally.

Note, several rally goers also arrive early so there will be a growing number as the week progresses.

200 miles on my RD would not be really fun. I may wait for the fall one and just join.
If you do make it, it is a good time. 22nd year in a row. We sell the place out for a week. lots of smoke and old bikes.

Looks bad for Nancy and me for the Boone rally.  This spring is getting everything piled on top of one another.  I'll post if things change but right now it appears that we won't be able to attend. :dash2:

Call the Boone KOA, they have deluxe cabins that have a bathroom, microwave and mini fridge. They sleep 3-4, a full bed and twin bunk beds. There may also be other options at the KOA also.

There are several motels and hotels in Boone. Search on Google Maps, find the KOA and put a marker on it then search for motels/hotels nearest to it.

I'm recommending checking the KOA or what options they have because all of the rally activities start, end of take place there.

I am sorry to say that things have changed and I won't be able to make it this year. My wife has injured her knee and is on crutches. I'm hoping to see everyone next year and that you have a great time.

Best wishes

I've got a cabin reserved Wednesday & Thursday nights. My tires have a good 1,000 miles left on them, maybe 2,000 for the front, but that rear tire doesn't seem like it has quite enough left for me to be sure. Consequently, I have the wheels off the FJ and I'm dropping them off today to have new tires put on. I'll get to do a shakedown this weekend.

I have to ride home Friday because I'll be going to Huntsville AL for a wedding Saturday, so I'll miss Friday night and Saturday night in Boone. As a result, it looks like none of my usual Eurotrash Twin friends and family will be able to make it. Stu is out; he is full-time dad while his wife is out of town. Paul and Bruce are probably both too busy mid-week, but I'll text them both & nag. Andrew will be in town this weekend to drop off his 916, but he won't make it to Boone next week; they're getting ready to go overseas for vacation and then they're moving.

TRoy and Kurt, sorry you guys won't be able to make it. Next time.

Bill,

Kris and I will be there on Mon. I've just started breaking in a set of Michelin Road 6's. First impressions are good. I put 40 miles on them this morning.

Anyone else chiming in?

It'll be great to see you guys! Are you local now? Is Boone like a 3 hour ride for you guys? "We're going to do the Parkway a bit to 321 south, stop in Little Switzerland for lunch, run home and feed the dogs, and then come back up 221. If anyone wants to come with, we're leaving at 10 sharp."

I waited too long to ask my tire place about Road 6's, they couldn't promise me they'd get a pair delivered in time, so they're getting me another pair of Metzler ME-Z8s. I liked Z8s a lot last time, the bike never felt better, but the rear wore out in 5,000 miles; I literally rode home from Tellico extra gently that year because I was worried I'd be down to just "air" before I got home. I don't ride as much as I did when I was commuting, so "5,000 miles" means I'll almost certainly still have these same tires next year in Boone, and it's a toss-up whether or not I'll need to replace them before Boone 2024. Hopefully they'll be ready for me tomorrow, I'll put the wheels back on tomorrow night, do a shakedown run this weekend, and head north Wednesday.

I put Road 5's on the Ducati right before the pandemic began, they seem fine but I've only got about 2,000 miles on them so far.

ALL RIGHT! NORBERT is gonna be there!

I took the FJ out briefly Saturday with its new tires on, to make sure I remembered how to reinstall FJ wheels. So far so good. It even idled okay.

I'm going to squeeze my 5 hour ride into 8 hours, just making sure I'm there early enough to check in and get my cabin.
