Title: Snow's piling up in the Sierra's
Post by: T Legg on December 26, 2021, 10:03:05 PM
We have had a long warm fall in Reno with endless opportunity to ride but that's has all come to an end. This is our second series of 8' + snow storms in the mountains this month and now it's down to the valley floors. With projected highs in the twenty's and low thirty's for the next couple weeks the snow is going to stick around. I won't be able to ride again until next year.
These pictures are from late March of 2019 driving up to Tahoe. That was a great snow year too.
The last picture was in early December of 2018 .

Bugger that.
Guess I complained too quickly about our rainy week down here in the vineyards.

Earlier today I was wondering how much snow Travis and Ian are having to deal with.  :scratch_one-s_head:

Here is a picture taken today of the same area as the pictures from 2019. We weren't  able to get the bikes up there this time.
This is the kind of snow. The Donner Party dealt with.

Holy shit Travis, Australia has plenty of snow but doesn't provide the opportunity to experience it at this level. I can't believe you ride through this stuff.

That road is only twenty miles from my house but is at just under ten thousand feet of altitude. Down in the valley  where I live is between 4500 and 5200 feet in altitude and we now have about five or six inches of snow and are snow free many times during the winter. Even with our excellent snow removal crews I won't be riding in the high country for months now until it is warm enough to keep the pavement mostly ice free.
