Title: Texas Hill Country Thanksgiving Trip
Post by: aviationfred on November 22, 2021, 10:39:36 PM
I am heading out in the AM to visit my brother in Buda, Texas for Thanksgiving. I have 3-4 days of riding in the Hill Country of South Central Texas. The area that I will be riding is West and a bit north of San Antonio, TX.

Casper and Minnie will be making the trip.

The trip to Texas was a great time. I got too visit with my Brother and Nephew. Thursday and Saturday were not good days to ride (Rain).
Once we arrived in Buda, we caught a bite to eat at Willie's Joint. They had an interesting take on the Old Fashion game of Bingo.... everyone playing gets a card with random numbers. They release 4 chickens into the game pen. The chickens run around in the pen. When a chicken shits on a number that you have, you get to mark it. Hence the name of the game 'Chicken Shit Bingo'. https://williesjoint.com/

The lunch ride to Dripping Springs on Wednesday was great. We ate at the Route 12 Filling Station. The BBQ chicken sandwich was arguably the best chicken sandwich that I have ever had. https://route12fillingstation.com/

Later in the afternoon, my brother and I rode up to Lake Travis and rode Limecreek Road.... A West of Austin Go Fast Twisty road. We encountered intermittent sprinkles so our speed was held in check. I rode the VFR on this ride.

For those that are familiar with the song, Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks. There is a reference about going to 'the Oasis'. During my trip last week in Texas. On one of our rides, my brother took me there. It is located on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas.

Had an awesome ride in the Texas Hill Countcottage had a chilly start for the ride to Luckenbach. My Brother was not looking forward to a 300+ mile day on his TL1000R,  do I let him ride the VFR. After lunch in Kerrville, we met up with a couple of MSTA members (Motorcycle Sports Touring Association) who happen to also be in the same area.

On the way home.... we stopped at Pop's 66 Soda Shop on Historic Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma. I grew up on Cheerwine soda and I have never before seen it as a fountain drink. Bottles of Soda from floor to ceiling along the glass walls......

I went to high-school with Garth Brooks. Yukon Oklahoma. Same class. If I had only known. I would have became his best friend. He was a garbage man for a while after he graduated.
Been to Pops a few times. Looks like you had a great time. Always good to spend time with family.
I'm envious Fred.
