Title: Another rant on paint codes....
Post by: Motofun on November 04, 2021, 09:33:17 AM
OK, let me apologize at the beginning.....I've searched the files and there's a lot of info but I'm still confused.  I have what I always thought was an '89 FJ because that's what my title says.  I'm the 3rd owner so the real history is a mistory (sp?).  Anyways, The paint is a very dark blue with quite a bit of blue pearl, but it looks black in bad lighting.  When I look at the tag on the head stock it was built in 1/89 which got me thinking was it really an '89 or a '90?  So I check the paint data and in '89 it's called shiney black.  In '90 it's called bluish black metalic.  The '90 paint "sounds" more like the right description but all my paperwork contradicts that.

Does anyone know, Is shiney black really black or is it really a pearled dark blue?  I don't think I've ever seen a really black FJ come to think of it.    :wacko3:

Looks like my '89 is in fact an '89.  Any knowledge on the shiney black?  Is it really a pearled dark blue?  Maybe "shiney" is just a term they used to describe the pearl?  Still don't understand why they would call it black, though.

I bought one brand-new, had it for a year.

It was a really, really dark blue.

If your new one has a s/n that ends in 1241, I might still have the key for it.

I believe it's called midnight blue.
