hello all, i was taking a little ride down the highway yesterday running around 75 with about an 1/8th of a tank left and i noticed i was loosing power. it got bad enough that the bike would not excelerate anymore so i pulled over. i still could not get any power out of it at trying to rev it up. so i open the gas tank lid to see iff the guage was lieing to me and it had gas. so i started back up and it seem to run fine. any ideas? :wacko3:
Check your gas cap vent, ride it again till it starts to be a problem then open gas cap (easier w/spare key)
if it comes back to life thats it. They can have some issues.
If your problem does not go away and cracking the cap open fixes the problem then review the file below. Remove the Orange flapper valve thingy and your tank will no longer vacuum lock. Disassemble the cap in an empty bucket, that ball is really small and if you are not careful it will shoot out, never to be seen again. I took mine apart and cleaned everything leaving the flapper valve in. No problems in the last 3 years. I figure I can rip it out later if I need to. Good luck.

Testing how this hyperlink thingy works. When I clicked on the link it worked, maybe something to do with my being the one to post it.
Let me know if this works. Thanks

Long story that really probably doesn't need to be all here, but the short of how I understand it:
Looking at your link and breaking it down, "http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/ (http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/)" refers to a specific location on a specific server. The big sloppy mess in the middle is probably a unique sessionID sort of thing, to prevent hyperlinks from being created that will work (flunks a cookie check someplace, so that non-members to that group can't see it... actually no one can but the person with that specific cookie that logs them in and provides verification, but anyhow...). The last bit is the file name, but %20 is how a space is parsed in that link, so it comes up funky.
The better way is to check quick with a search here, see if anyone's posted that information (or similar), if you don't see it, download the file and post it here in the files section, and refer to that instead. At least, that's what I did. Looks like there's a bunch more files in the yahoogroups files area that need moved over.

Andy, thanks for the feed back. Your explanation of the cookie thing makes sense. I did make a search here first but clearly not a good one. Hopefully I am a little smarter now than when I woke up today.
ok everyone heres the update.when i ride through town it runs flawless. when i take it out on the highway for a couple miles it starts to loose power . i turn the throttle and there is nothing there. i pull over and i let it idle for about a minute and it returns to normal. i dont think its the gas cap vent because i opened it and it didnt make a differense. please help :flag_of_truce:
Fuel filter is plugged. Replace it.
sounds like you are running out of fuel,
check :
fuel line kink
fuel filter
fuel pump(if you have one )
are your floats set right.
if you are using a tank bag it can block the gas cap vent and cause this problem, damhik :wacko3:
:flag_of_truce: :dash2: :ireful: ok. i have to admitt im getting a little fed up but not giving up. the previous owner had the carbs rebuilt this last spring by a dealer. i have the recipt. when i rode the bike home from picking it up was all highway and never had a problem but was only running about 60mph. the problem occures above 65 and after just a couple miles. i just changed the fuel filter with no luck. everytime i do open the gas cap i get a woosh. i took apart the cap vent and im not sure what im doing but what i saw was kinda weird. it looked like some put gasket sealent inside everywhere. not sure if thats suppose to be like that. it had tons of it in there. the round rubber gasket was caked and the 4 springs uder the gasket was full of crap and would hardly compress. i havent rode it yet but if anyone if anyone has any insight about all this please help. thanks
Firecop,
Well, you've likely found your problem :-) Now, can you clean all that gunk out of there?
There should be no gasket glop inside the cap. While you're there you may want to also pull the vent flaps if they're still in place.
I'm trying to understand why they might have filled it with gasket goo.... maybe to stop the whistle. Once you allow the tank to vent, you should have proper fuel feed.
Cheers,
Arnie
