Title: A little motorhome holiday
Post by: Millietant on August 16, 2021, 08:31:31 AM
Some here might have noticed I've been a bit quiet over the last couple of weeks  :sarcastic:. That's mainly because Liz and I took the motorhome out for our first proper trip away, into North Wales (Snowdonia, the Coast and Anglesey).

Oh how I wish I'd put the FJ on the trailer and taken it with us.....the roads were awesome BUT, so was the scenery.

It was only a 4 hour drive to get to our "campsite" for the break, a friends driveway, so it wasn't a mammoth trip. The dog came with us and slept the whole way there and the whole way home (even though we came home the long way) and he seems to love being away in the motorhome - even when we're just driving around to visit places and see things.

If any of you "foreigners" ever come the UK, do not leave until you've visited Snowdonia !!!

Here's a few photo's to give you a taste

Our base, near Bangor, N Wales Coast and Caernarfon

Very nice Dean, thanks for the pictures.  I didn't realize they had sailboats in England, I'll have to visit sometime.

If you do decide to come, we have a couple of spare bedrooms and would be happy to help anyone make sure they get to experience the best of motorcycling in the UK :good2:

That sounds awesome!  I really hope I get to travel to England and Europe someday.  I did have a layover in Frankfurt on the way to India, but I think that hardly counts.

I am curious how well the average mid-50s person does switching to riding/driving on the left for the first time.  Is there a high mortality rate for that population?

There is at the Isle of Man during TT week - but everyone rides like a nutter that week, especially the Germans and Dutch (who seem to make up most of the "victims" of that mistake). Otherwise it's very rare.

We've had one high profile case in the last couple of years where the wife of a US serviceman (who it turned out afterwards was some kind of Govt employee) came out of a US base, drove on the wrong side of the road for a couple of miles and killed a motorcyclist she hit head-on with her car.

Other than that, it doesn't seem to be a big issue. I'm used to it as I've driven a lot both in mainland Europe and extensively in USA. It doesn't seem to bother me other than when I get home I'm wary for the first few miles and I keep getting confused over the fuel pumps. The diesel pump filler handle and hose iare black here and petrol, or gasoline, are green....... :sarcastic: :sarcastic:
