Title: Suggestions
Post by: Marsh White on February 07, 2009, 12:31:08 PM
Well, here is an alternative to the Yahoo FJ Forum.  We mess around with this and see how we like it.  Please make some suggestions about what categories to have.  This is everyone's forum.  I'll work on putting up a files section, photo section and whatever else I can think of.  We will also need to decide on a graphic look (Theme) that we all like and is easy for us to use and read.  I'll add in a bunch of different themes and give all members the ability to switch them on the fly.  Then we'll do some voting on which one we like best.  We can have polls now....yay!

Front end mods
Rear end mods

Seems kinda the same to me, call it Suspension and make it one area.

Honestly I'd just stick it all in one mass called Modifications and be done with it, that'll include everything.  It can always be split out later or have subs made if it gets unweildy.

Additionally, rather than just carb questions, why not make it a Maintenance area, as that'll include plugs/wires/etc that often need tweaked when the carbs have been sitting so long as to get off anyhow.

Nice work, Marsh!  This is great!

How about a section for the dirt bike/dual sporters?

You know, the guys who go up to Calvin's place?

How about a sticky for a tread for introduce yourself here tread. Won't be needed much now but as newbies find it that have not been in the yahoo group it could be helpful.

Also to keep the spam down require that the first post be approved. This would be good if the first post is introduce yourself so that we know that they are a real user.

If you need some one to handle mod duties for this part or to help with that admin let me know.

Well I have 2. 1) Maybe change Gun Related to "Off Topic" (for a broader scope of conversation) as opposed to a "War Room" with the understanding there might be some (as Frank stated) NON-politically correct posts/ conversations, cursing, naked ladies dancing etc... So anyone not wanting to post about FJ's or Guns, has a place to post their comments. Just a suggestion. 2) Keep the damn Aussies and Kiwis that fall out of trees out..... :-) jk
Also, a pack between all of us to contribute money Marsh may need to keep this site up AND NEVER, NEVER LET MARSH BUY ALCOHOL REFRESHMENTS AT ANY RALLY HE ATTENDS! From this day forward.

Yes. Only let Dave and a couple of others in, maybe Harvey. Klavdy and Ned, man I don't know..... ;) Klavdy thinks Frank being shot in the ass is funny. While I, merely laughed to be part of the group. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Denis,

I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm kind of against that idea.  People will tell jokes naturally during the course of posting on various topics anyway.  I don't think we need an exclusive JOKE area.  But then again, maybe that is something people want.  If it is something that keeps cropping up, I'll make that section...

It is something that most of the other boards that I have been on have ended up doing so I just thought that I would toss it out.

How about a "Ride Buddies" section?
Posts based by geography.
Something like:
I am going to the Carson City area on such and such day. Anyone want to go riding?

Or posts such as:

Carson City NV: If you are going to be in the area with your bike and want to ride, contact me.

Kind of a way to get to know other riders and experience local roads and ride spots.

How 'bout a  "I'm a big homo poofter Seppo and want to ride my buddies section?"
It would be great!
You could let all the whiny arse anti fun fags over on the Yahoo list stroke each other there.

Marsh,
New site looks great. Can there be a section added for those of us that have parts available like myself. For those looking for the UNI's, slave kits, spin on oil filter adapters, etc. I know that there are dealers out there that have also helped out the FJ community that could be added to the list. I know Zannotti's seemed to be the most prevalent in the past, but now there are others.

Every time I think  of that night of lightly-controlled mayhem, I start giggling. Too much food, too many guns, not enough ammo, and Frank gets shot in the ass with a bottle rocket. All in a setting that was just too cool to even attempt to describe.

Then again, I probably appreciate it more 'cause it wasn't *my* ass.

Smaller target.

Harvy, it does for me.  Are you sure?  And I'm not entirely sure what you mean by drop-downs....do you mean the main horizontal line of buttons?

Oh I just improved this section (the view recent posts to the forum link) to now display the posters info on the left of their message as well.  I have no idea why that was not built into this thing by default....I think it makes that link even MORE useful now!

What's this, a one-stop shop? Plenty of other spots for that one on the InterWebs...I don't see the need for it here. Post a link. Hell, I like breasticles as much as the next guy.

Wait...I'll rescind that. Maybe take a clue from the Intruder Alert board...the Back Room. All vehement arguments and questionable material goes there. Boobs, nice poopers, camel toe, "calendar" shots, etc. goes there. It's beyond off-topic, but still restricts itself to non-hard-core (I realize that's not what you were implying, Mud, I'm just sayin').

Two other possibilities, although I find both of these somewhat divisive:

A Women's Forum. Granted, we don't actually have that many female members, but perhaps it's something to think about in the future.

ADVRider has a section called "CSM" (Church, State, and Money)...political posts go there. Kinda like the gun-section segregation. Things get to be heated, and it limits the annoyance to only those interested in the subjects at hand.

Yeah, no porn.  Plenty of places to get that.  I kind of like the idea of a "WAR ROOM" for really heated discussions.  If a regular topic gets too heated...we move it there.  Then people can go at it to their hearts content.  We'll figure it out as we go along...  It will all work out!  :)

Great new site. My suggestion would be to post the link to this site on the other forum. It took me days to find you and only did so with the help of Chris Murphy who I emailed [address was listed on the forum] and he was kind enough to send me the link. One question is there a spell check for posts. As this post clearly demonstrates I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Thanks for providing such a great site and i am very happy to be here. Donation to follow.;D

Marsh, One thing to clean in up a little, Combine the For sale and want to buy and bikes for sale into one folder and sub group it into FJ and Non FJ.

Take a look at the FZ1OA website to see what I am talking about.

One other thing I am going to start in the parts is (pay it foward) If anyone has any parts laying around that they want out of there hair list it there. It seems to work like a charm. (It's one of those what goes around comes around)

Eric, that's a great idea.  I have not done ANY graphic, flash, layout, etc, customization to this site yet.  Trust me: I will!  That sounds like a good idea and something I could do.  Right now I have been concentrating on all of the little functional aspects that make a site like this flourish with our FJers.

Right now, there is a MAJOR upgrade to this forum engine that is in the FINAL stages of beta testing as we speak.  It should be out within a couple of weeks/or a month or so.  I'm waiting for that engine release to be stable and add it here...this will be a BIG improvement to the site, both visually and functionally.  Once that is done, I will work my magic on making the site look cool and do cooler things!  I know it is visually generic right now - but it is the content that makes this site special...and I don't want to do TOO much to take away from that.  But yes...I will add the BLING FACTOR once the new engine is realeased!
