I had the pleasure of meeting Paul.1478 a few weeks ago. He recently joined this group, having bought himself an FJ1200. Because his FJ came to him with a couple of spare parts, including a Corbin seat, he advertised a couple of FJ parts for sale here. I reached out and we arranged a convenient time for me to come to him.
Paul.1478 has a couple of neat bikes, including a Gold Wing and a two-stroke Yamaha (RZ350? RD350? Forgive me Paul, it's been a minute) and seems like a swell guy. I hope he joins us at Boone next month; I think he'd enjoy it, and I think we all would enjoy it too.
The seat came with all hardware in place, so installing it was literally a ten second job. (It took me five seconds to find the seat release levers.) However, it was a lot longer before I got to actually ride the bike with the new seat.
And wow, are these bikes ever comfortable with a good seat. The one on my bike was apparently crushed - and it was itself a replacement for my original seat, which has been waiting to be mailed to Sargent for, er, a few years now I guess. But now, I am in less of a hurry to upgrade the seat, because a stock seat in good condition is really really good. I had forgotten how good.
And now I am more eager than ever to turn the 5-hour ride to Boone into a great 8 hour day. I have a camp site reserved Wednesday night through Sunday, and I am currently planning on a long day ride up on Wednesday, with the fun roads to myself mid-week. It will be a treat.
Thanks, Paul, for the great seat, and I hope to see you up there in a month. Look for the big campfire!
Hello Bill,
I was nice to meet you and your wife also. I am glad the seat went to a good home to someone who will use it. I am going up to the mountains in fact, Deals Gap May 2-7 for a 2 stroke meet we have every year. Taking my RD400 with me you saw.
Boon sounds like a LOT of fun. I need to see if I can make it. The FJ loves those roads and I just finished valves, oil change and carb sync so it is ready to.
That RD is suweet... :good2:
Cheers Jake
