Title: Boone 2021
Post by: mst3kguy on November 10, 2020, 04:06:20 PM
Just so there is no confusion, the spring 2021 rally is the weekend of 5/21-5/23.  Of course, most of us will be arriving earlier that week.

As usual, if you're going to make reservations, call the KOA, don't try and book our visa their website.  They hold all kabins for us.  And mention you're with the FJ motorcycle group.

week ending in 5/21-22 works for Nancy and me.  Seems like a long time since we've been to Boone

Joan (JoAnn???) the 2020 reservations to the incorrect week, one week earlier than what is posted at the start of this thread.  I have not been able to contract her or anyone from the KOA and they handle their own reservations so made another reservation for the "correct" dates.  See y'all there.

JoAnn just called Nancy...so far Just Dean and I are reserved.  She said to text her at 1-828-386-4109 as that was the easiest way to contact her.  We used the KOA web site about a month ago but apparently she doesn't get the info very fast.

Kris and I are booked for Mon-Sun. The funny thing is that Kris had emailed Joann to get the reservation but Joann didn't recognize her email as I usually do the reservations so she called me to ask is we were going this year. It's all sorted now.

Dean, you are more than welcome to come to the Rally. Bring any family or friends ( that ride ;^) ) too.

I haven't had any luck reaching anyone by phone, so I used the website to book a tent spot for Wednesday night 5/19 through Sunday 5/23. I've been a Kabin guy so many years I don't even know if I still have a tent, or a sleeping bag. The kids might have 'em. I suppose I had better look.

I booked the campsite for just me, but there is every possibility I'll have 2 to 4 tents there. Paul (Scrambler) is debating riding from Louisville vs towing, and might come out as early as Wednesday. Bruce (Guzzi - 850T3?) may ride up from Charlotte, maybe just for a day, maybe for an overnight. Andrew and his girlfriend are probably towing up from Charleston, probably Friday evening after work.

Right now I *plan* on riding the FJ up, the fun way, squeezing a 5 hour trip into 8 hours that Wednesday. It has been a couple of years since I got a whole day of riding in on a weekday - maybe Boone 2019. If someone needs a second bike, I'll tow up and bring 'em both, but I think Andrew has his 916 sorted out so we're probably good.

Kookaloo.

Nancy got in touch with Mr Eddie.  We ordered only one bail of fire wood.  Last time we got three and it was way too much.  Must be getting old when you can actually say something like "too much fire wood".   :wacko2:

Just made hotel reservations in Abingdon VA for Monday and Tuesday nights.  Will roll into Boone on Wednesday and stay through Sunday.

KOA is sold out so I'll be at a hotel in-town

Weather permitting  :-(

Yeah, that was for Dean.  :-)

Although I think it's technically JINX

If I show up and it rains out then I promise to never come to another FJ rally.  All this time I thought Hoffman was Chief Thundercloud but I'm beginning to suspect that's it's really me.  :-(

Sorry George, the USA is on our no fly list, so I won't be able to make it. Once this pandemic has passed and we have a return to normality, I'm certain I'm coming back to the USA and am going to be trying to borrow a FJ and join everyone for at least 1 FJ rally before I pop my clogs  :sarcastic:  :good2:

It was a fun week/weekend. I'll post pics later this week.

Paul and I left the KOA and went into Boone for bagels & coffee, hitting the road around - 9:00? he got to Louisville about 2:30pm, same time I got back to Georgia. I had a nice cool hour or so down 221, and then a not-half-bad ride along 64 to north Georgia.

More later this week, because it was too good in too many ways to give it proper explanation here.
