I downloaded a copy of write up quite a few years ago, but yesterday the laptop it was saved on crashed. I'm almost ready to get the FJ1100 back on the road after many years. It's been a long process with carb rebuilds, petcock rebuild, clutch master and slave rebuild and of course battery and tires. One of the last things was to modify the mufflers since I like the appearance of the OEM exhaust, just wanted a little more sound out of it. The bike was my step-dads since new and I got it from him about 10 years ago.
I looked through the technical section and couldn't find the write up, so I'm hoping someone else downloaded it or someone could help my dumbass find it on the site.
Welcome back, it's been awhile....
Due to their restrictive MOT regs, I recall the Aussie guys had a write up on modifying the oem cans,
It's been many years ago. Was it a write up on modifying the XJS cans, used on the FJ?
Unfortunately, I don't think we saved anything in the Mod. Files
Perhaps the Convicts will chime in....
In the meantime, here is a utube on the subject:

Pat, that would be the Poms, they're the ones with the MOT.

Thank you, do you have any video of when you ran it without the baffle in them?

Not video, but I have a drawing, only that I have not how to insert the pic or send it to you by PM

Speaking of exhaust...
is RPM no longer selling them?
3 years thinking that it was no more possible to add pics
Long story short, not right now. Can't go into details at this time but we are working on it.

Thank you, very similar to the mod on my Suzuki GSX600F. But the tube in the Suzuki was welded to the divider plate and I had to cut it off. I used a hole saw to cut the rear plate, I think I'll try it with the Yamaha.

The "Redpath" may be a very good option to pursue - He's in Anaheim and does fantastic work.
I have done this before on my fj1100 because of a rattling sound from exhaust mufflers but it was about 30 years ago so its hard to remember exactly what was done. i drilled out the 3 pop nails took off the back plate and then i found some lose rods/tubes inside that had rusted lose .i pulled out the tubes i think it was 3 of them and they was about 30 centimeter long. i then modified the plate cutting out some material so it looked like a 3 armed cross (see pick) not sure if i did that on the popped on plate or on the muffler backside itself .After this It sounded very good something like this :biggrin:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF8x9_j704w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF8x9_j704w) or maybe more like a Honda rcb 1000. watch from 3 minutes into this vid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE-nbFCTO6w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE-nbFCTO6w)
I remember now that i also had rattling noise from the 4 downpipes / bends (lose innertube ) and fixed it by drilling a hole and fit a popnail.

Thanks. I'll wait.
I did the tube removal and bored out the holes in the plates before I reinstalled them. It makes it slightly louder, but not too bad. Eventually I'd like to get a complete exhaust for it.
Loud pipes suck.
