hello all, currently im running a V+H SSR2 4-1 system. it sounds like everyone elses exhaust and i want a unique sound. i was thinking a remus slip-on can. ive heard that a leo vince sounds nice too. my goal is to find an exhaust that " makes this bike sound like the aston martin of motorcycles". any suggestions. ive been on youtube, but its hard to really get an idea of what it sounds like until you are standing in front of the bike.

Hello I hope this info will help you. I have an 89 FJ1200 and my buddy has a 84 FJ1100 , I run the full D&D and the 84 has the full SSR2. At idle they sound completly different the D&D sound at idle is like no other I have heard on the FJ. When we ride side by side the only time I can hear the SSR2 is when he gets on it before I do. Dont get me wrong I think it sounds good but I like the fact that you can hear me coming down the road and wounder what it is.

NO Dan..... I made sure of that when I was creating the mounts for the indicators. As you can see in the first pic, the mounts are on the license plate holder - probably a couple or 3 inches further aft than the OEM mounts..... however, if I had kept the OEM indicators.......yes.....would have melted them really good!
I've since removed the can and gone back to the Micron slip-on that was originally marketed for a Suzi GSX1100 or some such........That Moto GP style exhaust is not very popular with the local constabulary!

i dont want super loud i want a growl. so no d&D jardine, straightpipe. etc im looking for a european sportsbike sound
Rebuild the V&H, and drill the center baffle from it.
The FJ mill is noisy enough that it's not going to have a clean purr anyhow, more like a tractor with an attitude problem.
I am happy with the sound of my Kerker system........has a nice growl.....it has gotten slightly louder since installing it, but it's not overly loud......as long as it doesn't get any louder :sarcastic:
One day when I was leaving work, I started the bike up to let it warm up while putting my helmet on and such, and this guy walks by and says "That thing sounds Angry" I took it as a compliment :biggrin:

:rofl: tractor with attitude problems. thats a nice system that kerker there i like that. how savage ( if any) is the fuel consumption change? did you go from stock to that and what did you have to do? i once saw a kerker in a magazine on an original eddy lawson replica kawasaki and it was just the ducks nuts so i have wanted one for my kwaka and now maybe the fj.... cheers
I have not noticed any difference in fuel milage since installing the Kerker system......
I knew the bike was already running too rich with the stock system, and a little time spent on a dyno after installing the kerker proved it was..... It's rich everywhere except idle. Part-throttle with no load. Part-throttle with 25% load, full throttle.
When I bought the bike, I took the carbs apart for a good cleaning, and found (in my opinion) way too huge main jets installed. The PO gave me what was left of the Factory Pro kit that he installed, and I put the smallest mains that were in the kit, still too big, and I'm sure the needles are off, and not sure what to do with those. The emulsion tubes are worn oval, and the diaphragms all have pinholes.........as soon as I can get enough beans together, I'm going to get a set of new carbs from Randy, and start over.
I was getting around 40mpg with the stock exhaust, and still around 40 with the Kerker.
