Title: Help me identify this plug
Post by: duanelr on September 06, 2020, 04:08:51 PM
Under the left side-cover.
This magenta, or pink, Molex connector has partially melted. Everything seems to work well on the bike and I have no idea how long the plug has been like this.

Two questions:
1. What part of the electrical system does this connector service?

2. Have you, or anyone you know of, replaced this connector?

Thank you!
Duane

As found in the files section; Check your RED plug (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=19557.0/)

The wires are from the bikes alternator, the red one is battery voltage and the brown one is the voltage sensing wire. Corrosion in the plug contacts will create resistance which will heat up and melt the plug and is one of the main causes of overcharging problems.

That's a direct answer that cuts the heart of the situation. I appreciate it, thank you.

After reading about this I checked my 1100 yesterday and it had evidence of overheating and corrosion. It's now on the replacement list.
