New to FJ's here!
Just added a FJ1100 to the stable. I'm going to modernize it while retaining the original look. I need to find info on the R1 front end conversion and the GSXR1000 rear end conversion. Hoping to find build threads here and to add my build as well. If any of you are in the San Francisco area, let me know if you want to go riding! I love these roads out here and enjoy being on 2-wheels.

Welcome to the mad house. There are quite a few people around who have done conversions (myself included), but a good place to start either Alf's FJ site (he's a member here too), or Barry Edwards FJ Mobs site. Links to both are below.
There are also member files on here about the various conversions too.
Best of luck, hope you find the necessary bit easily. :good2:

Flip,
Welcome to the FJ sandbox! Pull up a seat, and be among friends. My FJ1100 does well by me; yours should do well by you.
While you are still accumulating mod parts, I can offer a few little tips. The 16" wheels will limit the tires available to you, but I run on Pirelli Sport Demons now, and they are
FINE. I hear the Avon radials do the job just as well, also. Run a can of Seafoam (fuel system cleaner) through the gas tank, as per label directions, now and then. I run only gasoline in the FJ, not ethanol-gas, but maybe that's just me (I have a tendency to overdo some things . . .) Find real gas here:
https://www.pure-gas.org/ (https://www.pure-gas.org/)
.
Awesome project!
I think a really cool FJ1100 restomod would be a well built engine including a 4-1 exhaust with twin mufflers fabricated to look similar to stock. Add on RPM suspension upgrades and have the stock wheels increased to 17" and widened (https://www.custommetalspinning.com (https://www.custommetalspinning.com)). You'd have a thoroughly classic looking bike with thoroughly modern performance.
Welcome to the forum :hi:
I am one of the few who have installed a NON-YAMAHA inverted fork. Here are my write ups for the 2 that I have done.

Welcome Flip, I too am partial to the '84 FJ's
Here's some reading homework for you:

....and from our good friend Alf: http://www.fj1200.info/Home.htm (http://www.fj1200.info/Home.htm)
There is our Files section which has lots of good stuff in there.
Do you have FJ Owners handbook? If not, you need one, lots of good stuff in there.

Welcome aboard. I'm just down the road in Napa. When this Covid thing has gone away, we should investigate those fabulous roads of which you speak.

I live just over the hills and in the great valley from the two of you. There are some very amazing routes to carve around the North State...I'd love to tag along as well.
Seanable,
Nice thread bump. Meeting up just hasn't happened yet due to this shitty virus. It bollocks this year's rally season as well. Anyway, moving forward, welcome to the group. You've got winter to fix and fiddle with it, then be ready to ride the wheels off it, which is what this forum advocates. Just look at Fred's recent adventures.
As others have indicated, get your clutch pack from RPM, then have a look at the mod files to see if anything grabs you. My 86 remained mostly stock for the first few years of ownership and it was enjoyable enough. Once you've convinced yourself that these are awesome bikes, modding is an investment in the glorious relationship. The Fj responses really noticeably to owner kindness.
