Try an impact driver

Bruce J,

Rust penetrant may help.  I suggest that you use (get) an impact screwdriver, which looks like a heavy metal screwdriver.  It will have a socket-accepting end.  Using adapters (usually, these things are in a kit), the socket end converts to an Apex bit holder.  You CAN get JIS apex bits, which I recommend.  McMaster-Carr shows them:

https://www.mcmaster.com/screwdriver-insert-bits/jis-jcis-bits/ (https://www.mcmaster.com/screwdriver-insert-bits/jis-jcis-bits/)

The torque for the screwdriver comes from a solid hammer-blow on the far end of the handle.  They typically sell as a kit, new for US$30~$50.  Insert the tool into the screw-head, twist it in the direction you want to go (it will tighten OR loosen a screw), and strike solidly with a good-sized hammer.  This gadget will loosen the toughest screws.  I do not suggest using an impact screwdriver to install screws, as you can easily snap the screw with one.  A powered impact gun is NO relation to the tool I describe, and I doubt that you will succeed with a powered tool.

Best,
.

That impact driver was probably the 3rd tool I ever bought. I was 15 years old and could NOT get those screws on the side of my Honda CL350 to come loose.  The Honda shop owner felt sorry for me and told me about this essential tool. Think I paid 6 bucks for it (long ago.) Still have it.

I had the SL350

What a great bike. More versatile than the CB350. I rode the hell out of it, before I was drafted

Somehow I can totally imagine Conlon on that SL 350, a young buck, hair trailing in the breeze, kinda like it does now.

Yea, isn't life a funny old dog?

It took 50 years but now haircuts are illegal and marijuana is legal....

Proving the Hippies have finally won....

It is a little bit eerie, how parallel the tracks are here, with guys and their machinery:

My first bike. 1973 Honda Elsinore 250. Taught me so many things, maybe the most important being if you want an off road bike, buy an off road bike.

Had a bunch of fun, developed a passion that I could only ignore when my Son was little and my wife was still a green card holder.

Back in the saddle, again.

They've got loc tite on them.  Just use a little pencil torch and head the head till the heat seeps down to the loc tite and they'll come right out.  Banging on an impact driver is a last resort
