Title: New float valves -still leaking
Post by: MOTOMYSZOR on May 06, 2020, 08:09:33 AM
After winter, one of my carburetors started leaking....
So I ordered 4 full sets Tourmax FVS-205 (needle+ seat).

I just installed everything while ago and tested. carb 2 and 3 leaking....
I compared old parts and new and it looks like those valve seats are for older FJ's - gravity feed. Hole is bigger then in my old valve seats.

Could that be the reason why they leaking?

I just found Pat's post in carburetor files: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=9836.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=9836.0) and I know that valve seats from older FJ are the reason.....

Because seller try pretend that it is not his fault I have limited options......  :dash2:

I am wonder if it will be possible to use new needles and old seats.....

Should be.
I had problems with Tourmax needle and seat installation on my '85. Although the total length seemed the same like the old ones, I had a fuel level problem and float adjustment was necessary. Since I had no knowledge, place and tools to do it properly, after some time of trying I drove the bike to the expert. Now it runs on those seats a couple of years without problems.

We're all aware of "the whistle" the bikes make when parked "hot".

I pulled the valves in the cap to put an end to that sound and strangely enough my carb leaks ended.

Possibly related? Only the shadow knows for sure!

I love cry of the FJ wanting to be riden. After the flapectomy I really miss it.  :sorry:

I used old seats and new needles. And so far so good...... no leaks....  :yahoo:
I just had to adjust fuel level because was to high.
