Title: Hello from Germany!
Post by: Timm Adam on March 26, 2020, 03:41:16 AM
Hello everyone!

Wanted to introduce myself before I start to ask dumb questions or post requests.........

I am a petrolhead located in Germany. Trained to be a car mechanic in 1992 with Ford and started to mess around with little motorbikes before that. My first motorbike was a mini-crosser and my second already a Yamaha, albeit a 80ccm softchopper. Moved on to a RD 80 LCS and the to RD 350 LC 1982. Later a RD 350 LC YPVS 1984 in addition. Unfortunately sold them both; but at least I got a Yamaha FJ 1200 3YA to replace them. So that is when my FJ stuff started going. When they were new or nearly new I could not have afforded them; 2020 and all the people are just putting them out for rather little money. Currently I have bought my 9th FJ 1100 because of that. Driving a daily banger in matt black but technically sound, just finishing a red/white 1984 in very good condition in 100% original trim and detail; going to collect another one in blue/white and want to do the same to it, 100% original and keeping it that way. Projects: Project no. 1: Building a 1412 ccm upgraded FJ 1100 with 17inch wheels, FJ 1200 3CW front fork R1 brakes etc.. Project no. 2: Building a turbocharged FJ 1100 with a maybe 1314 ccm base etc.; will be looking also close to stock but with the usual upgrades and completely done engine to work with turbocharger. As it must be streetlegal here in Germany I am aiming for around 180 hp at the rear wheel.

As I always go really crazy about my favourite drives I collected everything FJ 1100 and FJ 1200 related like original manuals, brochures, magazines etc..

Of course with 9 FJ 1100 more or less complete I have a few parts lying around now. Also I have fibreglass reproduction made from a cool German guy of the fairing, the belly pan spoiler and the front fender. I will have decals made next, 100% correct colours, sizes etc.. I am doing "new" belly pan spoilers as they are always broken or rather missing already in 90% of all FJ 1100s in Germany.

As I am a turbo newbie I am really hoping to find some experienced warriors here that know their way around the engine and turbocharging it.

My other drives are two Ford Granadas (European Model Consul/Granada from 1972 to 1977), one of them imported from South Africa with a complete drive unit from an original Granada Perana with Toploader manual 4 speed gearbox and the good old 302 V8 from Ford, built by Basil Green.

Greetings and best wishes to all of you!

Kind regards

Timm

I'd be really interested in seeing the 1412 build as I saw a jug and pistons set up for the Fj. A bit out of my price range for now but I like the idea of it.    Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have more knowledge of these bikes then I do.   :morning2:

Welcome Timm. There are a number of members in Germany. You might be able to hook-up with them for a ride.

Interesting projects. I look forward to any photos.

I'd love the chance to take to the autobahn and WOT on an FJ.

Welcome Timm, wow, with your experience you can teach us....not the other way around.

Currently Giantkiller (Dan) is building a turbo bike. FJ1289 (Chris) has experience with nitrous and fuel injection systems, JMR (Mike) and racerrad8 (Randy) build custom engines.
Randy built my 1380cc FJ engine and he did a fine job. You are going to fall in love with ~105 ft.lbs. of torque, I guarantee.

You think the FJ pulls hard in its stock displacement, you are going to be surprised.

Welcome to the madness.
