The XJR 1300 alt fits and is 4 pole instead of the FJ 2 pole item. They are still available new.

thanks for suggesting trying a xjr 1300 alternator
got a second hand one off ebay $120
went for long ride today and all good

Yes, the XJR1300 alternator/generator will fit an 1100. The 1100 and early 1200 cases only had two mounting bolts, but that doesn't present any mounting issues.
