Title: Locating a FZR wheel bearing
Post by: turbocamino on February 25, 2020, 07:09:00 PM
Looking around for this Bearing>6203/15-2RS< i believe, fits an  88 FZR1000 front wheel on my 89 FJ ,,, only found 1 listing on ebay and is in China. Anyone know of another, preferably US, source?  Thanks.

From memory, 6203 is 17x40x12.....my guess would be that the 15 designation would be 15x40x12 (id x od x width in mm).

As with everything, I may be wrong!

The '87/88 FZR1000 and 750 uses the same 93306-30212-00 front wheel bearing as our FJ's.
Both bikes use a 15mm dia. front axle.

I only buy oem Yamaha Koyo bearings made with real Japanese steel.

If you are SURE it is an 88 FZR 750 or 1000 rim, then as Pat said it is the same bearing as the stock FJ rim.   The bearing number is 6302 and is 42 mm OD, 15 mm ID, and 13 mm wide.

BUT, if it was a swapped in 89+ FZR 1000 rim, then you are looking for the specialty bearings.  I'll have to dig up the number and size of the specialty bearing.

Pat - I went back and found a reply to another thread:

http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=18130.msg182351#msg182351 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=18130.msg182351#msg182351)

From that thread:
"The bearings are 6203-2RS-15

They are specially made 6203 wheel bearings with a 15mm ID vice the normal 17mm for a 6203.  The OD is the same at 40mm and most importantly the width is the same at 12mm (some of the other substitutes bearings for this swap are 13mm wise and require you to make mods for the difference in thickness.

You need to ensure your rims currently have 6203 bearings for these to be a direct swap. "

Of course, to make this as confusing as possible, the bearing numbers we are interested in are "lisdesic" versions of each other— 6302 vs 6203 vs a special 6203-15  :flag_of_truce:

According to the internet (not me) this bearing is readily available all over the place. Below is site map of locations that SKF alone supply it. If you zoom in, the suppliers multiply dozens of times over. The bearing is used by both Ford and Volvo.

Go to "SKF After market" for nearest location.

No, they are not the same bearings.

Do not concern yourself with the #6203-2RS-15 bearing....you do not need that bearing. That is a special bearing and is used when you have a 1989 or later FZR rim. You do not have a 1989+ FZR rim.

You have a 1988 FZR rim.

For the 1987 and 1988 FZR rim, you use the same wheel bearing as is used on our FJ's.

You got it, glad to help :good:

I would be remiss if I did not point out that RPM offer's you 2 bearings *and* new seals for approximately the price of one oem Yamaha bearing.
