I have an 85' fj1100 California (it has the extra emission parts). I'm trying to figure out where does the shorter hose, connected to the fuel petcock, connect to. Right now it is disconnected and has a screw in it's end to stop it from leaking (??).
thank you
The 2nd hose to the petcock is a vacuum hose that opens and closes the petcock.
The hose connects to the vacuum port on the #1 cylinder intake manifold. When engine vacuum is present the vacuum opens up the petcock valve so fuel flows to the carbs. When the engine stops, the vacuum stops and the petcock valve closes, shutting off the fuel supply to the carbs.
This hose has nothing to do with the the Calif vapor emissions system.
If you have this vacuum hose disconnected (with a bolt in it sealing it off) it sounds like your petcock is in the Prime position. Not a good thing.
Check the lever on the petcock. It has 2 positions PRI for Prime and ON.
You do not want to leave that petcock in the Prime position. In that position the fuel is on all the time and if you have any debris holding open your float needles, fuel will flow thru your carbs into your cylinders and into the crankcase and flowing out the carbs bowl vent hoses onto your garage floor....you will be amazed how far even 1/2 gallon of fuel will spread on your garage floor...
You don't happen to have a water heater in your garage do you? :bomb:
Don't mess around with a bad petcock, fix it or buy a new one.

... you know I do otherwise you wouldn't ask
Yes, this is exactly the situation- it was on PRI the whole time. To my defense, I got the motorcycle a few months ago. It was standing in someone's back yard for a while so it's rusty and neglected. giving it much needed rebuild. Hopefully It will be ready for the 2020 Rally.
Just to make sure, the #1 carb you are referring to is the first from the right ? it is too short to reach anywhere else.
As you sit on the bike, #1 is on your left.

Thank you for this info Pat. I assumed this hose was going to the vacuum, but I was searching for confirmation of this and to find out where it should be connected. Your reply was exactly what I was looking for! :good2:
