Impressions from any one who's ridden HWY 33 please.
Yes, I've been on what we call the Ventura Hwy. loop. The 70's duo, America, named a song after this route, i.e. Hwy.33 heading easterward from the 101 to Ojai then up thru the Los Pardre mountains down to the Bakersfield central plain flatlands, then back to the coast via Hwy166, a short ride back up thru the Sierra Madres and down to Santa Maria.
A very nice ride from Ojai to Cuyama on the 33, very nice. One on the top 10 on my list in Calif.
Only so-so on the 166 until you get back to the Sierra Madres where you follow the Cuyama river back to Santa Maria and the 101..
Paul Lawson and I are going for a extended 1 week tour after the WCR, wanna join us?

When I was there it was after a year like this when we had more than a normal amount of rain. LOTS of corner debris. Rocks, sand, dirt. Road is fun, but the debris was distracting. Can also be rather warm, especially after exiting the hills, north of Ojai.
Unlike Paddy, not on my top 10, but still a good bike road.

Great road! Would take it going to Monterey to the USGP. Was very clean and twisty last time I rode it. They had just resurfaced the road but the fires last summer and then a bit heavy on the rain this winter might have ruined it. It rates highly on my list too. But take it up to the 58 and then head west to 101 just south of Paso Robbles. Wow, what a road.

Thanks but I'll pass. I've been to Willow Springs and burned up a set of R-Comps and brake pads running my Miata, very, very fun.
The big FJ is the wrong tool for this track, 'thou spending the extra $$ for a track prep-ed 600/750cc bike and a set of track leathers would be the ticket.
If you do decide to go, track rules require you to at least safety wire the oil drain and fill cap. Safety wire on the axles and caliper bolts is recommended, but not mandatory. Make sure you have a full suit, (full circumference zippered 2 piece is ok) fresh rubber/brake fluids and new HH brake pads. With this track, and our heavy bikes, you're gonna need those brake pads.
After the WCR, the first week of July, Jann and I are going down to Tamarindo CR (Witches Rock) for a couple of months, so I'm kinda on a budget.
Paul and I are going to leave early for Willits on Sunday the 13th to run the Moniter Pass roads thru the Sierras, then stop in Santa Rosa and visit Paul's brother for a couple of days, then on to Willits.
It's a shame you and Jill gotta leave so soon. (Jill is coming right?) I'm up for a pre-WCR ride. When do you get in? Marsh has the key to the Pine Cove cabin if you decide to visit. Cheers!
