Title: Added another bike to the stable
Post by: aviationfred on October 05, 2019, 08:11:34 PM
There have been 2 motorcycle lines that I have a love for. The Yamaha FJ and the Honda Interceptor. I have always wanted a 3rd Generation VFR750. The sound of the V-4 with a header is pure intoxication. I finally found one local and it has the obligatory left side exhaust. Picked it up for $1000.00 and it rides and sounds great. Definitely needs some love and cosmetic repair.

I have been eyeballing these bikes for a while mainly from all the hype I have read on them. Why a 3rd generation VFR Fred? These bikes are considered a do it all road bike, great for long distance, reliable, great in the twisties, fair amount of torque, brakes, comfort, I am getting jealous.
My two favorite lines is the FJ and the 84 ZX900a1.I would love to hop on that bike Fred and put it through its paces!!! I think I prefer in-line exhaust notes but there is something about low RPM grunt climbing up the revs on a v4, but when they are at or near red line they sound off to me. Nice bike

Similar to our FJ's with pod filters, many like the heavy induction noice from a heavy throttle responce, the Honda engine has gear driven cams and the wirring sound is definitely unique. This generation was the introduction of the Single Sided Swing Arm. My all time dream street bike is the Honda RC30 and this is probably the closet I will ever get to owning one.

Fred, how do you feel about the Honda RC51?  With Akrapovic exhaust they sound like an angry Harley.

The RC51 is an incredible sounding bike. There is nothing like the sound of a high revving V-twin. My brother rides a 2000 Suzuki TL1000R. A bit too race replica for comfort at my stage of riding. The VFR has much higher pegs and lower handle bars than the FJ. I have just ridden it around town a few miles so far. I got it tagged today and took it up on the freeway. It scoots along pretty well.

Yep, you're on a genuine crotch rocket now Fred.  No Iron Butt rides on that one.  They are amazing when it's time to go really fast though.

I did quite a few miles on a friends "Laguna Seca" commemorative RC51 (or VTR 1000 SP2, as it was known here) before I got my Aprilia RSV Mille - the RC was a horrible bike to ride on the roads (uncomfortable, verrry snatch throttle response, rode like it had solid suspension) but great round the Nordschleife - definitely built with only one purpose...to wrest the WSB title from Ducati.

But boy, did that bike look good.

On my RSV I've done quite a few 500 mile days riding to and from Germany and I found it pretty comfortable, as long as the speeds were kept up, but my friend with the RC 51 was in agony every time we went over 50 miles at road speeds and in traffic.

One day I might add a VFR 750 to our garage, but right now for me, the '84 VF 750 Interceptor we have is my favourite of the early V4 Honda's. Would love to have ours done as a Freddie Spencer Daytona 85 Tribute bike.

BUT - I love your bike Fred, great find  :good2:

There is a body kit that is a bolt on that transforms the bike into a repli-racer.
