I rode around Tahoe and the mountains and lakes above it on Sunday. It was windy with a storm coming in but still warm. The trees and plants are starting to get there fall colors,in the next couple weeks they will be fully involved.Monday by noon the mountains were covered with snow.We haven't finished melting last year's snow yet.Time to get the cold weather gear ready.
More pictures from above fallen leaf lake
But by Monday it was covered in snow and more snow for tommarrow.
Seriously Travis. That little bit of rain we got down here in the flatlands covered the Sierras in snow??
Regarding melting of last season's snow, has this summer been unusually cool or was there too much snow to melt? If we have an early and wet winter, the ski resorts will be celebrating.
Joe
This wasn't the first snow it snowed last week also up there.Mondays snow was above 7,000 ft and only several inches.Mt rose hwy had chain requirements overnight but most of the snow has melted already. It won't start sticking around till the end of October or early November. The snow left from last year are patches on the shady parts of the highest peaks and are not unusual. In fact there was still snow left last year from the year before that I'm sure is at the bottom of the remaining patches this year. The resurgence of the glaciers? It was a mild summer. We hit a hundred one day for a couple hours this year.It will be 80 in Reno this weekend again.
