Peeps, so there we were, coughing and spluttering to an ungracious halt at the Benbow exit of the 101.
Well, I mused, maybe the day has come after 138,000 plus miles that things are about over for my fine friend. Nothing lasts forever.
Options were considered; call wife with truck, limp to nearest random bike shop, hug and walk away.
Answer, none of the above. In a flash of inspiration, I elected to buzz Randy, wish him a good day and ask a hypothetical, so what would you do if you experienced the following symptoms?
A swift answer was forthcoming. Give your vac line a blow. If no joy, it's probably the petcock.
A quick ferret around under the tank and things were moving again.
Day two, Oregon.
Ran like a top for a whole day, but day three saw constant bogging and popping. Must be the petcock. Sounds fair, after all, those fragile diaphragms have spent over 3 decades soaked in gasoline; somethings bound to give.
Second stroke of good fortune was/ is, Fj Frank had recently transferred to the state and was just the other side of Mt Hood. The mission was on; order petcock from Robert, post it to Frank, nurse bike to his garage and voila, trip saved.
And so it went. Trip not only saved, but greatly enhanced with opportunity to visit Frank and Diane and their amazing state park canyon abode, check out the air show of the cascades and meet Mike Ramos for a day's ride.
Turned out nice again.
Big UP to Randy, Robert, Frank, Diane and Mike.
An adventure to remember.
That is awesome to hear that your troubles were easily dealt with while riding far from home. :yahoo: The FJ support knows no bounds.

That's the stuff. Damn, I'm sorry I missed it.
Absolute pleasure on our end hosting you guys... but I have to say TPIWW(P or V)! :diablo:

Andy...IIRC your 86/87 petcocks do not have a Prime setting, correct? (Like the 84/85's)
So if the petcock fails to open....what do you do?

Quite exceptional!

We put on the earlier model to let him bypass vacuum/diaphram failure... I think you're f'd if the later petcocks won't open with vacuum...

Yep, the 86 has no prime (just that electronic reserve switch), whereas the 84 has a prime, but no electronic reserve. Given the choice of a simple mechanical prime over an 80s electronic gizmo, I opted for the former.
BTW I understand Pats IIRC, but Franks TPIWW has me foxed. All I got was Treated Paint Industry Waste Water.
That didn't answer your question, Pat. I had a failing 86 petcock, which was allowing just enough fuel by at a steady throttle, but try and overtake or accelerate normally and it just sucked air. So yeah, lucky that partial preceded total and gave me enough time to trickle over the hills.
Hope Flynt won't mind but TPIWWP is This Post is Worthless Without Pictures.

Got it. I've got a fair of editing to do, but don't despair, like the TT video, it'll get done eventually.
