Hope this is a easy question. Can you replace the valve stem seals with the head on, and what method did you use?
Can the head be removed in the frame easily?
Looking at my options for replacing valve stem seals before digging deeper..
Yes sir: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=11718.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=11718.0)
But please, upgrade to the better seal...http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Head%3AVSS (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Head%3AVSS)
you will thank me in 10-20 years

Too answer this portion of your question. Yes, the head can be removed easily while the engine is still in the frame.
The photo is of my 89 FJ1300, 500 miles after the big bore install. The cylinder block also came out with the engine mounted in the frame.

Thanks Fred good to know. If I was going to take the head off I think a fresh set of rings may as well go in as well
